SOURCE: start up

U have 2 seperate problems, the gas gauge issue is caused by a defective sending unit in the gas tank, the cutting out will require u take the car in and have the electronic engine control system tested for trouble codes. Does this car have the 5.7 L engine?

Sounds like an antitheft problem I would start with the antitheft system. Usually when you only have one key all keys have to be programmed together even the original. When you have more than one it is easy to program additional keys.

You either have a bad solenoid on your starter OR a bad ignition switch as these are the only two things that can cause the symptom you describe... I lean to the solenoid first, RARELY does an ignition switch sieze up in the start position but it is a possibility. Several national chain parts stores can test the starter for you (GM starters have the starter solenoid mounted directly to the starter and you need to remove the starter to get to it, so you would take the whole unit in to test it... REMEMBER to disconnect the battery first!)

SOURCE: Engine cut out while driving. Would turn over, no start.

If it were mine, I would check to see that there is fuel to the engine and the ignition system is working.

a bad engine coolant temperature sensor will cause cold no start conditions.your coolant sensor main sensor during cold start condition because when engine coolant cold PCM will cause rich fuel mixture for cold start up when engine coolant and oxygen sensor warms up cause engine goo in close loop lean mixture.but coolant sensor is the main information sensor if bad it will cause many problems.

Sounds like your problem is electrical .... by now you may have flooded the spark plugs with gas .. so you might want to go ahead an pull them out, an see if the tips are wet from the gas ... If so replace them ... But before you put them back in, just plug them up on the wires, an have some one to crank it over, an make sure you you have good spark, at each spark plug... If not, you may need to replace your coil pack/s, which ever one is bad... you should have two on this vehicle .. Goodluck ...

I have a 1994 caprice ex police lt1 4l60e. things were fine. for about 2 months.then getting on freeway picking up speed and trans acted like it did not want to up shift. it was already in 2nd. got home,...

hi, it may be the transmission oil, transmission oil LEVEL or and transmission filter.
first check transmission level by starting the engine (ticking over) go through ALL GEARS and check level. this level will (drop from standing idle). NOT ENOUGH FLUID
if the FILTER is partially blocked then not enough fluid reaching the chambers. NOT ENOUGH FLUID.
the fluid may be full of deposits. transmission fluid needs REPLACING and or FILTER.
also check if leaking transmission fluid.
check if lever out of range (worn, can't get to position before end of gear lever travel).
the brake bands may be WORN, or needs adjusting
the KICK-DOWN seams to work. check link-ergs for wear and movement.
the speedo seams to have a BAD CONNECTION (closed circuit connected then open circuit). loose connector. gerry

The starter is most likely the problem, tap on the starter lightly with a hammer while trying to start the engine, dont get run over doing this it will take two people,if the engine starts, the starter needs replacing.

Cannot get spark plugs in back of engine, what do

you take off that bar that goes from top of engine to the body.go to autozone or one of the other chain stores and rent the engine rocking tool tell them what your doing if they dont understand my term for it. install it in place of the bar you took off and turn screw on it to roll engine forward
if no tool available get one of your big buddies to help
place trans in park push car foward or bacwards cant remember you want the motor to tilt forward so you can reach the plugs so whatever way it makes it do that, when its tilted far enough set the parking brake firmly. the engine will stay there untill you release brake

You have a short in the system somewhere. You will need to get a mechanic to do testing to isolate teh problem or get a haynes repair manual for your vehicle so you can use the electrical system troubleshooting guide to isolate the problem.

Gas smell when starting and small dripage when back up from under engine

It sounds like the return fuel line is leaking. There are two fuel line and one is the high pressure line which goes to the fuel pressure regulator then to the fuel rails. There is then a return line from the fuel rail to the gas tank.
With the amount of fuel leak, it's going to be the return line since it's not that bad compared to the high pressure side. Follow the fuel lines from the drivers side around the steering shaft to the engine. The high side and low side (return) run side by side and you should see it leaking when the engine is running.
Good luck and hope this helps.
