Try flushing out radiator and then re-fill fresh coolant. If this does not work then there is a possibilty there is a problem with the cylinder head gasket.

SOURCE: my 1996 audi quattro is leaking and or spewing coolant...temperature light starts flashing...motor and oil gauges are in normal range. the hose directly under the reservoir has got white crusty stuff

sounds like your thermostat is stuck closed so when it gets hot its not opening and then comes out of the cap or overflow hope that helps.

SOURCE: 1996 audi a6 quattro leaking and /or spewing antifreeze temperature light coming on

Well I guess you know the engine is overheating, this means death to the engine if you are driving it this way. Seek out a repair shop and have the problem diagnosed and hope you haven't blown out the engine head gaskets

The light is flashing on the top left of the 4 squares. Its 1996 Audi A4 1.8 auto. What does it mean

Is this you instrument cluster? vtraudt image
If so, top left would be coolant temperature warning light.

What is the coolant temp gauge reading?

I would suspect faulty coolant temp sensor.
Also check if your coolant reservoir sensor (plugged into the bottom of you coolant tank) is plugged in (I often forget to plug it back in; the retainer also easily breaks and the plug can slip out).

Audi A6 2001 quattro 2.8 mysterious over heating

Yes, replace the thermostat. Then you need to 'burp the coolant system'. Your car has all the hallmarks of air in the system, especially a heater that is cold. This is because there is no water in the heater matrix. This is why it overheats. The system must be full and with no air to circulate correctly through the radiator.

Burping involves the following steps.

Remove the lid to the reservoir, remove the radiator cap, fill the radiator to the top, turn heating on full blast, start engine and get to operating temperature, keep topping up. Squeezing the radiator hoses helps. The level will rise and then drop when the thermostat opens. Top up when bubbles stop and the level becomes constant. Put radiator cap on, top up the reservoir and put the cap on that.

2005 AUDI A8 COOLING LIGHT FLASHING AND THE COOLING FAN COME ONHIGH SPEED WHEN i START THE VEHICLE

First, check the level of coolant. Be sure the engine is not hot when you do this. If the level is ok you probably have a faulty 'coolant temperature sensor'.

If the coolant level is low, add until you are at the 'max' mark on the tank. Run the engine and check for leaks. If you find a leak it must be repaired at a qualified shop.
