SOURCE: I have an 01 gmc with a cylinder 8 misfire I

Hi, I recommend you pull up the fuel rail with the injectors connected and crank the engine to check the spray on the #8 injector as compared to the others. The injector may be partially clogged. If there was bad gas in your truck, you may want to just pump it out and get fresh gas. Please let me know if you have questions, and thanks for using FixYa.

Why the loss of power and po300 code?

http://www.obd-codes.com/p0102 Code P0300 Causes and Fixes Code p0300 is a code that is generated when your engine has a misfire that is not related to only one cylinder. Sometimes this code will be set in addition to other codes such as p0301 which means that there is a misfire on cylinder 1 (cylinder 1 is the number one cylinder when looking at the firing order. It is generally the forward most cylinder on the engine.). If these engine codes are present as well the you should diagnose those first as they are probably causing code p0300.
This code will set your check engine light and needs to be fixed as soon as possible. If it is not then you will probably need to replace your catalytic converter as well as the problem that is causing your misfire.
There are many causes for this obd code. Since it is a "random misfire" or "multiple misfire" this means that the misfire is on different cylinders and not just one all the time.
Common Causes
  • Low Fuel Pressure
  • Vacuum Leak
  • EGR system malfunction
  • Internal Engine Problems (such as low compression)
Less Common Causes
  • Faulty Coil
  • Faulty Spark Plugs and/or Wires
  • Camshaft or Crankshaft sensors
  • Ignition module
  • Computer

#5 CYL MISFIRE

could be the fuel injector if it is stuck open or shorted to ground. check the compression first on that cylinder. if the compression is good check the fuel pressure bleed off time. if the pressure drops more than 20psi in 15 minutes it very well could be a faulty injector.

What my cause a misfire in a 98 dodge avenger

  1. A lot can cause a misfire:
  2. Primarily fouled spark plug(s) or bad wire(s).
  3. also a corroded distributor cap or rotor. a vacuum leak,
  4. A bad or leaking fuel injector,
  5. Engine out of time and mechanical engine faults including Compression leaks and sticking valves.
  6. More often than not it is simply a fuel or ignition system problem both of which are fairly easy to solve.
Troubleshoot your ignition by first assuring that you have fire.

If the engine does not crank at all pull the coil wire off at the cap and set it within an inch of the tower and crank the engine. sparks should emit from this wire to the coil.

You can test each individual spark plug wire this same way by just unplugging it and arcing the spark. then pull out the spark plugs to examine them and replace as necessary (on a dodge use champion plugs). the cap can be removed (make sure to put it on exactly as it came off and put each wire back exactly as it was or it will NOT fire correctly). to check for fuel disconnect the line at the fuel rail on top of the intake manifold and turn the key to ON. this will kick on the fuel pump and should push fuel out of the line as the pump primes. if this test works but you still are not getting fuel to a particular cylinder(s) start unplugging injectors while the engine is running and make a note of which one does not change the idle as this is your problem cylinder. remember any ignition or fuel system fault will disrupt your fuel/air ratio and can damage the catalytic convertor and o2 sensors

#6 cylinder misfire

Could be a valve seat burnt, check compression, if lower than the rest, probably that or a head gasket leak next to #6.
Borrow or buy a compression tester or get a garage to test for you.
To fix you will have to determain wether the valve can be ground back in or a new seat is required, but either way, as it's a big job, get all the valves done as if one has gone, how long before more go?

Aloha We have just replaced all of what you have replaced, plus water pump, fuel pump, pcv valve and 02 sensor. Took it to mechanic today we had misfire on 1,2,6,7. Mechanic said that the 99 dodge is known for bad computers, he checked ours and works great turns out that it was the coil. Ours was jumping 1/4 inch and had a orange/yellow spark. it is supposed to have a 1 inch spark and be blue. This has solved our problems after 527 dollars later.
Check the coil!
