I have a 1987 ford ranger with a 2.9 liter I pulled it in the shop to change the plugs and now it won't start its got spark from the coil but not to the plug wires

It could be a bad cap or rotor or possibly the distributor not turning. Pull the cap off and see if the rotor spins when the vehicle is being cranked.

My 97 ford ranger wont start - no spark.

Maybe you should check to see if the timing is still intact. Have someone turn the key while you look behind the timing cover to see if the cam gear is spinning.

1987 Ford Ranger. Won't fire.

Ignition module comes to mind. If you've tested for spark (holding spark plug wire near the block when cranking) and the cap and rotor are good, it seems the module is the only other area left to try. Best of luck Patrick. Please post back with any other questions.

It could be the ignition module. I have seen that go bad. I like my Chilton book, it helps a lot.

1987 Ford Ranger that sparks but wont' start

try to replace the coil and all the spark plugs also make sure that the plugs are gapped right. that info will be on the evaporation sticker onthe core support in the front of the truck under hood. I think it is 0.004 not 100% sure on that. I hope that helps

No spark

How are the cap and rotor? Did you replace or inspect those? They're usually easy to remove, and once off, you can check them. The cap will have contact points on the inside (one per cylinder) and the rotor spins around inside, touching each point in turn and triggering the spark. If the edge of the rotor is smooth, it's worn out - it should be ridged like the edge of a quarter. Likewise, if the contact points in the cap are worn down, no spark will be created for the plugs to fire.
