If you look under your car you will see a tin heat shield in between the exhaust pipe and the floor of car. These are known to rot loose and cause all kinds of noises. This is located right where you described the noise. Sometimes if this piece is still entact, you can just bend it a bit and the noise will stop, but I would usually just rip them off and leave it off. Hope this helps you

SOURCE: Driver side rattling on 1994 Firebird

hi, this is a very common problem that all cars eventually get and it is going to be one of a couple of things.
1. the most common fault is the bottom ball joint. These are easy to replace if you have a ball joint splitter and they are cheap to buy, its best to replace both sides as the other one could go soon after.
2. this is the steering rack ball joint their is a rod with a ball joint on at either end of the steering rack this can be tested easy by jacking the car up so front wheels are off the floor then hold the tyre at either side and then sort of wiggle the wheel left and right slightly and youll feel if this is faulty it will have some loose play if feels solid like the wheels are turning normal then the bottom ball joint is the likey problem.

Hope you understand what im telling you if not give me a shout back and ill be glad to help.
Also if you need further assistance then give us a shout.
Hopefully you solve your problem. Either fault is cheap to buy as it is a really common problem so this making them cheaper.
Main dealers will be more expensive but going to a car spares shop that sells everything will be alot cheaper as they use parts that are not genuine but are just as good. Most garages dont buy parts from main dealers as the cost of parts and repair would be to high for customers and they would lose custom. give us a shout back if you have any problems ok

SOURCE: Pontiac G6 gas pedal rattle

Is this almost like a metallic buzzing sound?

Find the catalytic converter under the car it should have a shield on it. Use a broomstick with the car running and hold the shield still and have someone give it a little gas. Just move from shield to shield until you find the offending shield.

Don't touch these with your hand as they can get hot fast.

Most parts houses sell a very large hose clamp to go around these shield for about $10, they will know exactly what you are looking for.

You didn't say which model or engine.
Check for loose heat shields, broken engine or transmission mounts.

I have a Nissan Altima 2011 and when my car is in

Likely Exhaust, kneel down under the door, if it sounds like it's coming from the center of underneath the car it could be a broken Catalytic Converter. Other than that someone that knows something about cars is going to have to chase it down for you. This is just not enough information.

Sounds like catalytic converter inner material broken up inside casing. To verify, with vehicle thoroughly cooled down , raise vehicle high enough to get underneath, use jack stands for safety, and fist pound converter and listen for similar rattle.

I hear a rattling noise while my car is in park and only when it is in park from my drivers side and as i am sitting in the car it sounds like it is right underneath me

Sounds like you have a loose heat shield that is a piece of tin between your exhaust pipe and floor of vehicle. These can rattle pretty bad. While the noise is there, look under vehicle and you may see where it's loose, or corroded.. If you get under the vehicle when it is cooled off, you can probably locat this loose shield within seconds. If it is not loose, wiggle your exhaust pipe and E brake cable. Hopefully you will find something loose

will try to assist you. did you have your clutch replaced professionally? if it's a popping or cracking sound when accelerating or turning, it's most likely a c.v. axle going bad. either on driver or passenger side in the front of the car right?if it is a bad c.v. axle it will pop and crack when you turn wheel from left to right at low r.p.m. if not this, you may have brake issues. either it's a grinding sound while accelerating or decellerating,as long as cars in motion the noise will persist.try tapping your brakes while in a parking lot in slow gear, hear something from driver front, have a passenger with the widow down on passenger side, hear it from front passenger side? the thing i go by is what i hear when i test drive to diagnose an issue with a vehicle is,axles?popping and cracking when turning the steering wheel from left to right at low speed. [axle problem] grinding, scraping sound? brake issues! hope this helps and thank you for choosing fixya.com and we are here for you 24/7 7days per week thank you!!!!

sounds like the power sterring pump check valve is failing because it only when you turn, try to turn the wheels standing still to verify the noise, if noise present, replace the ps pump.

Jingling noise? 1990 chevy k2500

If you had front disc brakes changed recently, then more than liklely someone forgot to put your anti rattle clip in with the installation. if you can stand the rattle it's not life threatning. if no brake job recently, then open the hood and look for something loose that would be rattling.
