What would cause my 2002 suzuki esteem to just die

Jamie, Is or was engine light on, are there any codes, was there any recent work done? The more info. the easier to help diagnose.
Removing the oil fill cap and have a helper crank the engine, while you look for cam movement,if you have cam movement that's good.
Next squirt some starter fluid in throttle body and try starting, try a couple times. If starts and revs fine while running on starter fluid, problem is a faulty fuel pump filter, fuse, relay or pump.
If it spits sputters or backfire while trying to start, timing belt has slipped probably and needs replaced.

Have you checked the fuel injectors? Fuel filter? Fuel pump? Sounds to me like you have a fuel delivery problem.

Try the following: remove the airbox and spray some starter fluid into the throttle body while someone else cranks the motor. If it starts for a second and dies, then you KNOW you have a fuel delivery problem. If it doesn't change and still won't start, then the problem is either a bad sensor somewhere (crank position sensor, maybe?) or no compression.

2002 ford zx2. I replaced the timing belt and the car is timed perfect but still wont start. Any suggestions?

Check for spark, if no spark check your crank position sensor, cam position sensor, plug wires, ignition coil, plugs properly gapped.

If you have good spark, check your fuel pressure, if good check your coolant temperature sensor.

Double check that you CORRECTLY aligned the marks on the timing belt, double overhead cam engines are more involved and require a specific procedure.

Test the injectors for power going to them. Check fuel pump pressure as you may need to adjust. Finally, a whiff of starting fluid may let engine run for a few seconds indicating it really Is a fuel issue.
You have both a fuel pump relay and an ECC relay in the Powerbox.
If this is a Double Overhead Cam V-8, the are parts called "Cam Phasers" which can stick and throw off timing.
"Cold Start Sequence" This is a enrichment function which is controlled by water temperature. A bad temperature sensor can eliminate this process. The fuel mix is set rich and the cam timing is changed to promote easier starts.
Most of the items I mentioned will not throw a diagnostic Code. You did not indicate whether a Code was set. The throttle position sensor can be checked by disconnecting the electric lead and using an Ohmmeter on the part while you move the throttle. The Ohms should change smoothly.
Would like to know what you find.

Code p1391 99 grand cherokee limited 4.7 wont start

Try unplugging the cam sensor and then try to start. The cam sensor is on the underside of the passenger head towards the front of the engine. Is is accessible from under the vehicle. If it starts replace the cam sensor. Iffy it still does not start replace the crank sensor and the cam sensor. The crank sensor is located on the passenger side of the engine block behind the starter. The starter will need to be remove to acces the sensor. You need fuel, air, and spark to start it. Make sure the engine is getting fuel. Make sure the pump is working. Fuel goes from the pump to the filter, through the lines, to the engine. If the engine is getting gas, you need to check for spark. This concerns the spark plugs/coils, wires, distributor, coil pack, dist.cap, rotor, cam sensor, crank sensor, timing belt, ecm. It is a lot of things but anyone of them can make the car not start. That is why it is important to do a fuel check and a spark check. If it gets fuel, that cancels out fuel. Same for the ignition system, where you get the spark. If you have any questions, just let me know.

You should be able to remove the upper front forward cam-dust covers. With these out you should be able to align the cams to their timing marks. As for the crank you'll have to rely on the timing mark on the forward crank pulley/harmonic balancer.
I hope this may have assited you. If you in need of further info or images please send a note back.
Best regards,
Tom
