Question about Ford Mustang
I recently gave to my 73 mustang mach one automatic tranny service that includes changing the oil and filter, the tranny was previously working ok, but now the trans wont change from first to second or third gears, i check the fluid level and its ok, may be a little overfilled, it does works if i make the changes from first to second manually i even readjust the shifter linkage, does that adjustement have anythig to do with my problem?
I don't think it's in your linkage. It sounds like you may have a cracked or disconnected vacuum line leading to your vacuum modulator. Or you may have a fauly modulator. Check for leaks first...At the back of the motor on the passenger side there should be a small (in diameter) vacuum line comming from the carburetor to a metal line leading down and back toward the rear of the car. Then at the back of the trans there should be a small vacuum line leading toward the front of the car to a small metal line. If one or both of those vac lines are loose os broken thats most likley your problem. If not it's more likley the modulator.

Yes it does matter. Remember your filter is a screen that the oil flows over. If it is clogged it will not allow clean oil past it and to some extent will be like you are low on oil or high if the oil can not flow.
Change the filter and look for metal deposits in both the fluid and the filter. Minute shavings like sand or smaller is normal as long as there is not a lot. If you see a lot or see big particles then gears have been ground and you are looking at trouble. Get fixed early. Otherwise if filter is clean and fluid is fine and tranny still does this they make additives for tranny's to help with slipping. I use tranny medic. Follow the directions as you will need to drain some of the fluid out. Also do not add to your tranny unless you have met or exceeded the mileage specs on the bottle of the tranny medic. Hope this helped.

yes it sounds like a solenoid,,but if this goes out it wont shift it all, i could be wrong,, try to explain.. theirs a cast alumn plate about 1 thick it bolts to the bottom of your transm,,,,for every gear their is a clyder with a shaft..in it operrated pressure,, now if you have a code on computer the engin light comes on. id say it is a solenoid... you can call the main company ask for repair..tell them and they will give u an opion..
