Question about 1984 Dodge Pickup 4WD

1 Answer

DIY Repair Hi. Please forgive my ignorance if I don't explain this exactly right, but I am trying to obtain information for my brother. He wants to repair the limited disk differntial on a 1984 Dodge, 3/4 ton truck with a Spicer 60 rear end. It is my undertstanding that the positive traction of the rear end is only turning on one wheel. He is needing to fix the other side. Any information will be appreciated. Thanks....Sandy

Thank you for responding. It is definitely an internal differential issue. He is looking for a manual that tell him how to fix it. He has some experience with working on vehicles so he is fairly certain he can do the work if he has instructions. Again...thank you for your help.

Your explanation is stating two different rear end styles. Limited slip and posi-traction. But either way if you have a wheel that won't engage when one slips with limited slip or one that doesnt turn with posi then you either have a broken axle or an internal differential issue which can be confirmed by pulling the rear cover off the diff.

My question is what the cause of the obd1 port in bmw car 740i 20 pins wont read the diagnostic tool?someone please give some advice...

OBD1 is basic information 'your vehicle needs looking at'. OBD11 is the one with the codes. With earlier OBD1, dealerships could use their own diagnostic equipment as codes were pertinent to one make. OBD11 made codes more universal.

He might have meant the Heated O2 Sensor, Go to AutoZone and they will pull the code again for free. It's better to get the exact code than to guess. The Heater Core has to do with your Heater/ Climate Control system. The Heated O2 Sensor is part of your Emission Control System.

1984 Dodge Pickup Differential repair

How this works is there are clutches and discs in the differential, over time they wear out and you lose your limited slip. Being a spicer repair/replacement parts should be easy to find. as far as rebuilding its not that difficult if your somewhat mechanically inclined, just remember there are shims on each side of the center carrier and thay are different so dont mix them up also dont mix the caps that hold the carrier in up. this is also a good time to check the bearings in the rear and change seals. Good Luck
