SOURCE: Head gasket?

You remove air filter and other parts.
Then you remove head cover.
Then you unscrew and remove the head,
Clean a bit the block
Replace gasket.
Screw back the head
Follow head tourqe settings and screw orders on diagrams when mounting back the head.

The whole thing is not thst easy as it may seem, if you want to DIY you will need to buy the Haynes manual for your car. There you find a step by step procedure with pictures.

Here is a repair manual.

Also enquiry to Haynes.Haynes manuals are the best.

Here is how to replace head gasket on a Honda,
with lots of pics, procedure is the same, torque values and screwing order are different. It is not a job for absolute beginners

Do not forget to rate the solution

Thanks.

How much will it cost to repair a leaking head gasket on a 2000 ford focus se?

Header gaskets are fairly expensive to replace. It depends on the labor rates of the repair facility. I would try to find a local community college that has an automotive degree program. Usually they will charge much less for the fix (to help students learn) than a garage. If that isn't an option I would replace the head gasket and not the whole engine. Of course, if there is other damaged caused by the leaky gasket that is another story. There is a lot of labor involved with replacing a header gasket. I would say anywhere from $500 to $1000 anyway. Hope this helps.

Blown head gasket

Well it would really depend on the condition of your engine.
It would take more labor to repair your engine than it would to just replace it. But unless the engine is very damaged it should be cheaper to have your engine fixed. And replacing the head gasket and having the head repaired should be under the price you were given. A head gasket set for a 4 cyl engine is around $100 wholesale.
I would call around and check with other shops next.

Hello coolbelt: My name is Roger and I will be glad to help. I would strongly recommend not using any add to the coolant quick fix products. All you are doing is adding to the cost of the repairs. You will end up with cooling system plugged up and heater core plugged up. Check around at other shops on the cost of repairs. A head gasket replacement is expensive on newer cars. The parts and labor are expensive. Not as expensive as a fix in a can could be. Should you need further help please just ask. Please rate the answer you received. Thank You for using Fix Ya. Roger

I think I have a blown head gasket. How would I know and how much will it cost to repair?

Your Car should be running really bad and possibly water in the oil. You Will have to get a repair estimate from a local repair shop. If you have the 4 cylinder engine, you could have a cracked head.

Cracked engine block or cylinder head or blown Cylinder head gasket. Both are repairs beyond cars value unless you do it yourself to save the labor cost.
