03 ford superduty 6.0L diesel starts then dies only after sitting all night

If truck isnt started every day it will start then die and take three attepmts to start have had the fuel and oil pressures tested and new fuel filters, batterys test good

You probably have an air leak in the fuel line. Air bubbles rise to the top-most area of the tubing and form a "vapor lock" . Find the leak, stop the problem! IT's probably a loose connection somewhere.

I had the same problem with My 1990 F150 300 6cylinder 4x4.....I cahnged all the same things you did, finally I sprayed a can of Gumout through the throttle body and it worked and ran great. Now I add fuel injector cleaner to the gas and a regular clean with the gumout and the problem has'nt come back. Good Luck to you and hope it works!

2 solutions: first, ignition control module is getting hot and shutting car down. 2nd; you didn't mention your dash(service soon) lights were on.<p>
You said the fuel filter was pretty clogged up. It's sounds like a bad case of EGS(ethanol gas syndrome). The ethanol;being a corn deritive;acts like corn liquor(which is what is is), and turns the fuel to goop, and adds large amounts of water through out all the systems.<p>
It clogs up the fuel lines,the injectors, and ruins fuel pumps. It also puts heavy carbon on egr valves, int. and exh. valves, and can ruin oxy sensors, and catalytic converters.<p>
Let's try the cheapest way first:Buy a can of SEAFOAM and Berkline 2+2 at your parts store. Take out the oxy sensor(s) and clean the ends using the 2+2 and re-install.
Then change out the fuel filter again. Pour the SF into a tank of PREMIUM(only) gas. Change the pcv valve. Then start vehicle and let idle for 3-5 min(even if you have to rev it up to do it to get the SF flowing through the system), and then drive it 10 hard miles.<p>
Replace that fuel filter, and then let it idle some more. Your car sounds like it is really messed up bad. Unless you take it to a garage that has a fuel system cleaner machine, this is the best way to do it.<p>
After this, add SF every 3-5000 miles to your tank. It will prevent this from happening again. Also; to be on the safe side. Have a PSI check on your fuel pump. This goop could have burnt it up. I hope this helps.

I would first have the alternator checked by an auto electrician to ensure it is working correctly and is providing the correct volume of current. It may be faulty and when driving you will be drawing battery power instead of power from the alternator to run the electrics. This will drain the battery.

Alternators do not last forever and if you are still running the original unit it is likely to be on it's last legs and you will need a replacement unit.

These International engines can be difficult to diagnose without the proper tools; namely Ford's I.D.S., or Navistar's DLC.

As for the o-ring the dealer was hinting at, they may have meant the o-ring on the fuel injection pressure regulator. I have witnessed these leak and cause difficult or no starting. This component is located at the rear of the engine below the turbo exhaust supply tubes. A specialty socket is needed to replace it (35mm 12 point socket which resembles an O2 sensor socket), although replacement is most likely unnecessary considering that your vehicle does eventually start. If this were indeed the culprit, your engine would not start. There is a test port next to this regulator to test oil pressure (bolt with allen head relief). A high pressure gauge which reads greater than 5,000 psi is necessary to test at this port. When your engine doesn't start, try checking what the oil pressure is at this port. A minimum of 3,000 psi is needed for the engine to start and 5,000 psi is prefered

Other sources of this problem could be the intake air temperature sensor, oil temperature sensor, or wiring compromises. It's a shame the dealer didn't want to spend the time necessary to pinpoint your problem. So glad I'm out of that crooked industry.

I PUT A NEW HIGH PRESSURE OIL PUMP IN MY 6.0 2003 POWERSTROKE IT RAN GOOD FOR TWO WEEKS THEN STARTED RUNNING ROUGH AND THEN DIED


Ford had a lot of problems with this engine. Most diagnosis requires a factory software scanner or one that can interface with the FICM module (fuel injector control module) Now you can perform injector buzz test and glow plug tests. If you can get running then also do a power balance test these test check fuel injectors statically and dynamically with the common rail oil pressure control sensor. These FICM modules are famous failure parts. Napa auto can get them.

seems fuel related--pump and pressure regulator may be failing--a pressure test for residual fuel is needed. Go to an honest, independent or specialist. Injector driver could be going bad. It\'s in the computer. Get a obd 1 scan tool on it to read data as well as any codes

on diesels this is comon on the escort diaphram in lift pump splits letting air into main fuel line allowing fuel to flow back to the tank no sucktion no fuel

It is a Ford. Replace the fuel pump and check the fuel lines for leaks including any filters.

HAVE YOU REPLACED THE FUEL FILTER. A dirty filter can let enough through for a while then the motor dies. After sitting for a while their is enough residual pressure in the system to force some more fuel through. Col

It won't die when pulling the relay because it has another power path to the fuel pump through the oil pressure switch . Fuel Pump Electrical Circuits Description and Operation watch this video on fuel pump control , shows chrysler first , ford ,then gm . wait for gm an he explains the oil pressure switch . Plus when it won't start ,don't guess or theorize ! Test what's missing ? check for spark , no spark check ignition system , coil's , ignition module , crank sensor etc... has spark ,do a fuel pressure test etc... don't think computer , when it won't start does the check engine light come on with the key on run not start .
