This is what i thought, but with it being cold and damp i was hoping there might be another issue such as water in the gas or something

i just took the car for a ride at lunch, everything seemed fine. topped it off with gas and put a bottle of HEAT in it.

Sounds like your fuel pump is going bad! The more you press on the pedal the more demand is on the pump and it cant keep up cuz its junk. Try to limp it to a shop to replace it, unless u wanna do that yourself.....

contaminated fuel is common, but usuall fill clog you fuel filter, you can try changing it first since it is cheap and easy and prolly needs to be done anyway... It the fuel in the filter is gunky, the filter replacement may just solve the problem, but keep another filter handy since you'd prolly go through at least one more filter by the time ur throught the nasty gas.......

It could be this because I had just bought gas about 30 minutes before it started running like this. It wouldnt even hardly run at all when it first started but has gotten better since I put gas treatment in it and run a couple of tanks of fuel through it. thanks

My 99 crv stalls on cold starts, have to hold the gas pedal down until engine warms up

Here are 2 very common causes for your issue.
1. Dirty air filter.
2. Faulty, or dirty MAF, ( mass air flow ), sensor.

Both of these things can restrict air flow to the engine. Your ECM, ( electronic control module, also referred to as the computer ), regulates the fuel/air mix ratio for the engine, which should be 1 part fuel to 14.7 parts air. When the air is resricted it often causes the driver to have to compensate the lower air level with fuel, which may be why you have to hold the gas pedal down to prevent stalling.

I hope this helps you.

86 corolla 4dr just stalls while driving.

Check and clean the Idle Control Valve.(IAC) buy a can carburator cleaner or brake cleaner. remove the air duct work .In the fuel intake system side, you can see some holes to the side on the inside. One of those holes is the IAC valve. Turn on the car and run at 1200 rpms. Use something heavy to press the gas pedal. Spray the cleaner into the holes on the intake side going to the fuel system. Turn off the engne and let the cleaner soak a bit. Repeat the process a few more times or until the engine runs smooth. The valve can be easily removed from the outside . If you have to, remove the valve and clean it.If it still does not work, replace the IAC.
