With the dash and dome lights going off, it doesn't sound anything like a timing belt, or chain problem. I am leaning more towards a loose or corrode wire either coming off the battery to the starter, or a bad ground in the starter causing a similar noise as a chain. I would start by checking all the fuses, under dash and under the hood. The dome lights and dash lights are probably on the same fuse. If the starter shorts out it can cause a few different things to short out as well. You haven't mentioned if the car does turn over or not. , now I will say that if you have a motor with a double over head cam, and the timing chain or belt breaks, it will bind the valves and do damage to the engine., but I cannot say that it could effect the lights. They are not connected in any way, but the starter can cause this. I hope I was of some help, keep me informed

SOURCE: All lights on dash work,

Hello, sorry to hear you are having problems with your G6. It's either security related or engine computer problems...most likely it is the engine management. (that silver box by the coolant bottle) You can try resetting the security by locking your doors from the inside, and then unlocking them with the key...alarm should cycle. on and off. If that don't work, try disconnecting the battery for 20 minutes, then touch the cables together before you reinstall...that will clear the memory...it's a long shot, but worth a try...Usually the reprogramming of the ECM (as long as the BCM is working) is required to correct the issues. Unfortunately, this takes dealer software.
I hope this helps & good luck with the car.

Where'd the timing marks on a Pontiac G6 year 2006 with a 4 cylinder in it

The 2.4 engine in the G6 uses a timing chain. On the chain there are 3 links each one a different colour to all the other link in the chain. On the face of each Cam sprocket and the Crank sprocket there is a notch or a groove mark. When the engine is at Top Dead Centre (TDC) on Cylinder One each coloured link will line up with a notch. **NOTE** All 3 must line up to be at TDC.

2006 pontiac g6 clunking noise when shifting gears check engin light came on day after noise started p0014 code had it scaned by the nice atuo zone guy . He gave 4 possible causes 1 loose cam or crank...

Most likely the advance mechanism on the cam gear has jammed in the advanced position. You're going to have to take the cover off the gear to see what's going on. If there is sludge, you need to also desludge the engine.

Hey Cab4457, Please take your pontiac to a reputable dealer.. you can "hunt and peck" at "fixes" for $$$$$ and still not fix it.. better to let someone that knows how, than spend $$$$ trying to do it yourself,, this sounds a little more than "shade tree" level issues!!

G6 dome light assembly replacement

This is for the Pontiac G6, 2006 Model year. Remove the Dome Light cover and Lens using a flat screwdriver or fingers, (fingers are best to avoid damage to the plastic). The lighting fixture uses a magnet to attach to the roof. Pull down and detach the fixture, gently as not to damage the roof's fabric. The switch's wiring harness attaches to the fixture by a 4 pin plugged connector. Use a small flat screwdriver to pry the tab up, off of the clip to release the wiring plug from the fixture. Use the reverse order to reinstall after repair. Good luck

Dash lights and rear lights go out if driver side door is opened

There is a electric contact in the door to turn on the dome light when open and off when closed. It sounds like that switch is bad or the wire attached to it has fallen off behind the doorsill. It may be another door though, since all work the dome light. Try opening the other doors one by one to see if they light up the dome. Theres no guarantee because the seat or seatbelt may come into effect.

Interior dome light stays on when driving.

Sounds like the dome light has been turned on using the switch on the dash. Most of the time the dash dimmer switch is set up so that if the dimmer is in the maximum position, the dome light can be turned on. If the dome light has been turned on like this, it still will turn off after some time to save your battery. Then when you unlock the door with the remote, it goes back to the same state it was when it was left in - "ON". Check for this switch on the dash, and roll it to get it off of the "ON" position.
