Could be one of 5 things going on.. First check for vacuum leaks. You may hear a hissing. If you hear nothing , then check the air intake manifold gasket. This is where the air intake manifold bolts onto the motor. To check this you can start the car up, and spray brake cleaner, engine cleaner, or even wd 40 directly on the intake manifold right where it bolts onto the motor.. If there is any difference in the idle, up or down, that is your problem. This should be checked first as it can save a lot of unnessecary work. If there is no change in the idle, I would check the throttle positioning sensor. This could be sticking and making the car idle high. The next thing to check is the air idle sensor. This is usually located on the side of the throttle body. It has a mushroom shaped plunger inside that controls how much air your engine gets. If this valve sticks, it can be cleaned as well as cleaning the inside of the throttle body where the plunger makes it's contact. A bit of dirt inside there will affect the air flow. If it ends up not being one of these things, but I'm sure it is, have a look at the EGR . This allows exhaust air to be burned or re burned. The EGR can cause idling problems, but usually you'll have black smoke and rough idling with it. Hope this helps you out

I have a2004 mazda 3 s when the a/c is on the idle gets rough when the compressor cycles on and off. A/c works intermittenly, can feel the idle fluctuate even while at speed and slightly accelerating.

when the ac compressor comes on, the engine should rev up a little to compensate for the strain of the compressor and if this is not happening, then you would get that rough idle. Some engines have a valve control to let in a little air into the engine intake so that it revs a little. I think this is called an AC step up.

1988 Mercedes Benz 300E 3.0L Gasoline F.I. ''Sputtering at Idle

ok..you must have more than one car???? you don't drive the 300 atall im guessing. #1 start car drive up the road and \back to your house. #2 let it idle till problem starts. #3 once it does start with the problem keep it alive with the gas pedal. #4 once your have it safely from dying in higher rpms "rev it" like a kid would, you know like if you were gonna race some one lol. be careful not to over rev or damage engine. you should do this for five minutes no longer than that. #5 let it idle for another 5 minutes. #6 repeat every day until problem with idling decipates. it took mine 3 300e like 3 days of this. if your not going to drive the car once you get the problem out of the way. turn the car on everyday and let it idle for 5 minutes atleast and take it for a short drive once a week. they get lonelly you know lol. later on you can just turn the car on every 2 -3 days and let it idle but still take it on a short drive atleast once a week

Engine speed hunts on idle. Auto trans slow shift.

The fast idle valve is inside the throttle body. Sometimes it backs out and needs turned back in (it's threaded). This will cause the loping idle.

Get transmission filter changed with new fluid. Honda does not recommend transmission flushing.

Low/poor idle

Here is what you need to do, a cleaning of the intake throttle blade and the idle speed control air-bypass valve, they get full of gunk over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls) like yours,
Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake
