Usually the sending unit in the tank or the gauge on the dash has failed. A mechanic would check the circuit at the gas tank.

Some cars require the pump to be primed after running out of gas. Im not sure about yours. You might try calling a dealer or other shop.

92 chev 454 when u hit the gas it starts to sputter now it wont start

The reason it worked is because when you banged your tank the bushings in your feul pump started workin. It is actually a old trick when people would break down due to a bad fuel pump. As you can imagine though that will stop to. Just a case of replacing fuel pump.

Why do my gas needle go from low fuel light on to exactly how much gas I have in the tank?

I'm not sure I am understanding your question. The low Fuel indicator light comes on, depending on how sensitive it is set, when you have between 2 and 5 gallons of gas left in the tank. This also depends on how accurate your fuel level sending unit is reading the fuel level in the tank. The low fuel level light depends on the level of fuel in the tank itself but other than using that sensor it has nothing to do with the fuel gauge itself. The fuel gauge may or may not be accurately showing the fuel level.

You can pour gas in the throtle body and it will run but when you stop it dies. i checked the fuel pump and filter and they are both workin fine.

if fuel pump and filter are fine then it may be the, fuel pressure regulator not supplying fuel to the injectors.if this is ok, then clean injectors they may be clogging up.
