Good Tip on Making Your Vehicle Run Better

This applies for any vehicle. Most of us know that gas prices arent exactly cheap right now and so we accomodate by purchasing cheaper gas, but here's some good info you should keep in mind. Fuel currently is mixed differently than it was back when there was the option for leaded gas. the past years low octane unleaded gas was cheap but well mixed and made, so most vehicles ran well off of it. Nowadays the mixing is different, and gas is more expensive. the low grade gas back then was good on cars and the newer gas not so much. our mid grade gas is the same as low grade from then. if you want to make your car run better, avoid going to arco, safeway, or any real cheap gas station. they water down their gas to make it cheaper, and its lower grade than most others, so instead of penny pinching, give your vehicle a break and instead of settling for low grade, pick the mid grade gas from stations like Shell or Chevron. i guarantee you will notice a performance difference and sometimes a gas mileage difference, especially in older vehicles that were built to run on the low to high grade unleaded of their times. its definitely worth the extra 10 cents.

On my 2000 jeep grand Cherokee while in 4wda it makes a humming noise at about 40mph it will also do this in 4wd low how can I fix this problem to where it won't make any humming noise anymore

comes with the 4wd territory. Noise. Why would you be in 4wd going 40 mph?? 4wd is for up to 30 at highest. Maybe a heavier grade of trans fluid, but that's risky and $$$ to refill with heavier weight fluid. Seals might not last long. Opinion.....stay out of high speed with 4wd.

I have a 96 infiniti i30 and while im driving there is a knocking noise... what this be? The check engine light is off.

I'm not familiar with this car, but your gasoline may be too low in octane, that can cause knocking, especially when accelerating. If you are using the designated grade of gasoline, but a higher grade will cure the knocking, then perhaps the engine needs to be tuned up.

Have 2001 s10 extreme. Oil pressure low at idle, only goes up to15 pounds of pressure at 2000 rpm. motor run great,no noises. Been like this for about 7 months

change the oil and filter-use 20w50 oil and see if that helps-you are heading for a motor rebuild if it doesn't get any better-Denny

How do I stop rattly tappet noise?

Rick you don't say what vehicle it is. I don't believe mixing oils will affect tappet noise unless one of the two oils was way too thin a grade.

If all else is OK, rattly tappets aren't generally a big worry unless you also get hard starting, which indicates the valve timing is way off. I've had vehicles in which valve noise was factory standard LOL.

You could try an oil change with one grade heavier.

The rattle might also indicate that the upper cylinder head is being starved of oil, either due to low pressure, or sludging. You could get oil pressure measured to eliminate that possibility.

After all else if you want to go further you could get the valve lash adjusted, but in some motors it is a helluva job, and in a van, it is more difficult.

I get a ping when i accelareat in my 94 gmc 350 vandura

Low octain fuel or the rings on your 20 year old engine may be wearing and you age getting oil in the combustion chamber, effectively lowering the octain.

Have your mechanic do a compression test on your engine and wee what he or she thinks.

Thanks for your quesiton at
