Question about 2002 Lincoln Navigator

Open Question

My Navigator sometimes wont start for 5 or so mins. dont know if the air ride has anything to do with it? i have plenty of gas

Its not cold or anything??? maybe that the air ride must be all the way up to start? Seems like it gets no gas? Fuel pump could be going out? TPS sensor data?

SOURCE: 2000 Lincoln navigator air suspension

The air chambers are worn out and this has caused a heavy load on the compressor, causing IT to become loud. The relay could be oxidized from excessive runtime...accordianman

Could very well be faulty relay, bad fusible link, or a fuse in general. You can trace the wiring or view a free repair manual at to trace wires to find faulty device. You can use an ohmmeter or multi-tester to test relays and fuses.

I have an 88 bronco 5.8l . starts good runs good for about 5 min. Then it starts to cut out (rolling idle)-missing. after about 12 min it smooths out.replaced distributor, air temp sensor, ect sensor.

I have no idea about OBD... evolution

(Jumped from '75 Ranchero to 2004 Navigator...)

but I had similar troubles due to cold start valve...

Whatever FI emulates a choke...

I'm assuming you have fuel injection....
ROCKAUTO shows both Carby & Fuel Injection options...

but your symptoms are pointing to FI... (see below).

Check out your diagnostic capabilities to see if you have any TROUBLE CODES...
then start with the cold start (air?) valve ... then
onto the injectors themselves

(if equipped)

((Just sounds VERY FAMILIAR))..

Transmission shifts fine cold but 5 mins later nothing

internal pressure loss when warm??? you mean it wont go? at all? or it wont shift? thats a stickler to diagnose when you cant see smell or touch it...tow it down to the trans man. could be anywhere in the hydraulic circuit, convertor? seal ring ? cracked drum? or if it wont upshift, could be sticking governor? modulator, mod supply line, worn clutches, since we dont know the year, we dont know if its electronic, sometimes sensor input can change with temp. and manual valve position must be accurately reported to the pcm. i can safely bet you dont have test equipment for that. so i must say see the trans man

2004 Lincoln nave, rear wheels jacked up high, front wheels normal, rides real rough??? any thoughts???? Thanks,

Replace the air suspension with conventional shock/strut
conversions. The Air Ride System is not worth investing
time and money ,after the vehicle is 5 years old.
Too expensive to maintain ,and too difficult to diagnose

Next time buy the Ford version of the vehicle

How long should I let my vehicle run before i put in drive, before the air suspension turn off?

a good rule of thumb is if its cold let the car warm up for a 5 to 10 min or so if its hot out you can start the car and drive off when ever you want but i would wait a hot minute after starting.

I have 2002 f350 that i have to turn glow plugs 8-10 times the is a process of 3x and after 10-20 min it will start

could be 3 things

Firstly you can test the glow plugs if you take them out and connect them to a batery charger if they glow in 5-15 seconds they are fine if they dont then are on there way out sometimes they crack due to being very cold then very hot quickly.

Secondly you may have an air lock in the fuel or fuel pump failure. if you have an air lock you will have to bleed the system through to make sure there is no air in the pipes. let me know if you need me to explain how to do it?

Thirdly air mass meter, although this is unlikely to stop it from starting.

If you dont want to spend any money then I would do both the forementioned things, 99% of the time this is the cause of these faults. and you can do it yourself. let me know if you need anything else?

Need to locate gas switch lincoln navigator 2001

If you are talking about the fuel cutoff switch they are generally located in the rear of the vehicle. Look in the cargo area on the driver side behind a panel. I know on these with the air ride system the switch for the air ride is under the dash on the passenger side you can check here also for the fuel switch, but generally they are in the rear of the vehicle.
