If you dont have any trouble codes, this usually occurs when the idle air control valve (IAC) is going bad.

You might want to check the MAF sensor(Mass Air Flow) and clean it with MAF/MAP cleaner. I am also kind of puzzled with this problem as I have a 2004 Corolla also, I only had power loss when my MAF went bad.

1998 malibu transmission slipping when it is cold

Sounds like a servo seal (o-ring) in the trans itself. If the seal leaks, it will not allow the proper pressure to build in the circuit that engages bands and clutches. I see a trans rebuild in your future.

97 F150 5.4 high idle

The PCM (power control Unit) controls the idle speed base in input from various sensors, one of them it's the coolant temp sensor, this sensor may be telling the computer that the engine it''s too cold and the computer will keep the idle up to help the engine warm up faster

1998 corolla dies when idling runs ok driving

Engine stalls cold or RPM fluctuates at idle up and down or dies near idle.

This problem is commonly caused by a dirty automatic idle speed control valve and throttle valve but always run a OBD2 fault code as well as the cleaning procedure. Buy a can of throttle valve cleaner (do not use carburetor spray cleaner!) from NAPA or Carquest (made by CRC chemicals) and spray it into the air intake while the engine is running, use up about 1/2 the can, engine will try to stall hold the speed up, shut it down and let it soak for 30 minutes, restart and blow out the remaining fluid, shut it down and disconnect the negative battery cable for 5 Min's to reset the base idle control. If the above cleaning doesn't cure your issues you need to have the computer controlled automatic idle speed control system diagnosed and repaired by a dealer or electronic engine control repair shop.

85 corolla has little heat on idle but gets cold when driving

This sounds like there is stuck door or gate that all cars use to switch from heat mode to fresh air or to direct the heat to the floor or windscreen etc but the main one is to prevent the outside cold air from entering the car when it is turned to the heat settings which blows the air over a small radiator device that is hooked up to the cars cooling system and has hot water running through it so that when you need cooler air a gate or door will shut preventing the hot air from blowing out into the car and the same goes for when you want to heat the car the door or gate that lets in the outside air will get shut and the air will be directed over the small radiator that is connected inside the plastic hosing that ducts the air to the different parts of the car ,the doors or gate are mainly controlled by a cable system that is attached to the leavers in the dashboard that give you the option to change the settings and if a cable has slipped off ether end it will not have any effect on the climate control of the car so you will need to start at the unit which is mostly up under the dashboard and inspect it for any cables that are not attached it will help if someone slides the leaver back and forward while you take a look as it will make a little noise so you can pin point the area ,also the cable might still be attached but the door or gate is stuck or jammed and needs to be free

I turn on ignition and vehicle starts to idle real high seems like accelarator cable is sticking

Hi Clucas, If you're talking about a cold engine, the vehicle is fitted with an automatic 'up idle' system. Depending on how cold the ambient temperature is. The colder it is outside the higher the idle, until the engine reaches normal operating temp. The engine should then settle down to the correct idle speed. If however the cold start raises the speed to more than 1350, have a scan carried out. If the idle speed is always at a high rpm, do the same.A leakage of air into the intake manifold can also cause the latter problem. A leakage however will not be evident via a scan. How do I know my car give correct charging to the battery. It seems that every time my car is in idle all the lightings, fan, headlights is almost dying, but If i will put the RPM to 1200 up everything...

It sounds like you have low voltage at idle.

This could be the alternator, voltage regulator, or even the battery. It could also be as simple as connections, but not likely. It could even be a loose or slipping alternator belt, but I think you would have heard some squeeling noise if that were the problem

testing the charging voltage to the battery is pretty simple, and some car parts places will do it for you. I know some autozones will do this for you.

Start with getting your charging voltage tested. Alternator/voltage regulator is the most likely, but a battery that is drawing too much charge current can do this as well.

Low idle rpm 700-800 when engine is cold -corolla 1998

I'd be thinking real serious about changing the IAT sensor. Usually located on air cleaner housing, it senses the incoming air temperature & advises Computer to adjust fuel as necessary. You can try removing it & cleaning it with tuner cleaner from electronics store, but replacement is usually required. A good mechanic & scan tool can test it before replacing to see if it is functioning properly.
