There is a plastic cover on the lens that covers the screws that hold the lamp on to the body. CAREFULLY pry the cover off to access screws, remove the screws and CAREFULLY pry the lens off. Replace bulb(s) reinstall after checking to see if bulbs are in fact working.

Go to this link (http://www.dmitriylerman.net/Maxima/MaximaMain.html). It's the best information I have found. Other solutions I've found say the bumper has to be removed. Someone mentioned that you don't have to remove the tire, necessarily, but it's easier that way.

It depends on which side you are talking about. I took out the airfilter to get to the driver side and I went throught the wheel well on the passenger side. Some of my friends took off the entire front bumper for easier access. Either way you'll save $$$ from having them installed at a dealer.

Open the trunk, from the inside remove the side trunk liner (by removing the plastic tabs the liner can be pulled back). Once the liner is pulled back you will need to remove two nuts which secure the tail light in place. Once the two nuts are removed you can start pulling the whole tail light assembly out. There are two other tabs that secure the tail light in place which may give you some resistance but the light should come out without too much force once the two nuts are removed.
Once the tail light is out you can change whatever bulbs you need to.
