Question about 2002 Jeep Wrangler

1 Answer

Speaker issues, randomly going out

My front speakers seem to be the only speakers that work in the car and randomly one side will go out without warning only to come back on sometime in the near future. I'm not even sure if the speaker bar even works at all but the dome light works so its not completely dead. Just a frustrating issue. Any help would be appreciated. I'm hoping its just a fuse.

Actually What others been saying are false, The 2002 Wrangler Has Lower DASH speakers not doors so the wire would not be crimped or kinked or broken with in the door grommet. The Probable cause would either be a loose jack where the wire connects to the speakers or the branch point where the wire comes from the speaker to the rest of the harness or a faulty connections behind the radio within the harness from being pulled an removed from the dash. I actually will be tracing a 02 wrang this coming weekend because of speaker break up so i will post you in on where it was located.
take care aj !

location of the break was behind the radio on the one i worked on, the only way a 2002 will have door speakers is if someone puts a different year door on the Jeep with door speakers it is not a factory option for 2002

reason being is if u take your doors off in the summer you wouldn't speakers for music and that is why jeep switched to dash speakers on later models

SOURCE: 2001 Jeep Cherokee Electrical problems

Possible cause is the wiring loom in the jam of the doors. Constant opening and closing of doors will break the wires here causing intermittent problems with any item associated with doors switches/controls etc.

SOURCE: stereo

pull the rubber boot back off the wiring harness in the crease of the drivers door and check for broken wires there. common problem due to the number of times these wires flex to allow the door to open and close

Only tweeters are working while playing radio. No other speakers are working. ...radio operates normally, turn on , cd, all options work. What could this be? It's a 2006.

all speakers r connected to the same wires on the radio
If left/right balance and front/rear fader work properly
and sound is coming out it is likely (but not definite) radio is ok and speaker wiring is the issue.
HOWEVER, if it sounds the same on both left and right, it could be the radio. It is unlikely both sides have the same issue at the same time without it being in the radio.
The only way to verify it to disconnect the speaker and substitute a known good speaker.
So back to troubleshooting.

FRONT SPEAKERS IN MY 1998 PLYMOUTH VOYEGER IS NOT WORKING

Both sides or just one?

When speakers go out on both sides at the same time, then usually the issue is with the stereo head unit. If it's wiring is fine, and it's fader setting is set to the front, yet you have no sound, then try this quick test to illuminate a speaker issue possibility:

Using a 1.5 volt battery AA or AAA size is fine. Just briefly connect the battery to the two speaker wires leading to the speaker you wish to test. You need to view the speaker and make sure it is moving in or out. If it operates, then your speaker is working and you can concentrate on your head unit issue.

Some speakers not working

TEST THE SPEAKERS USING A 9 VOLT BATTERY, USE A JUMPER TO THE SPEAKER TERMINALS, TOUCH ONE LEAD OF THE 9 VOLT BATTERY TO THE SPEAKER AND QUICKLY REMOVE THE POWER, THE SPEAKER CONE WILL JUMP IF THE SPEAKER IS GOOD, IF IT IS THEN THE RADIO NEED TO BE REPAIRED. THIS IS MOST LIKELY A RADIO ISSUE.
