My 2001 oldsmoblie alero is overheating. i have to keep putting water in the overflow. But i do not see it VB leaking out anywhere. Could this jusy the termestate is stuck????

Make sure there is nothing blocking the air flow in front of the radiator, it could be something small covering it to make these cars overheat. Ive had the same problem in the past.

hi, i dont know about the dipstick, but your overheating problem is most likely to be the thermostat...sounds like its stuck in the closed position,not allowing colder water to circulate, hence the overheating.......needs changing

Check the oil dipstick. If the oil looks bubbly and runny, you may have a bad head gasket. This is likely especially if the car has started to overheat.

On my 1999 oldsmobile alero. the overflow hose seem like it got a pin hold in it. because when i was driveing all this stam was comeing out. where is it comeing from?


Yes it could be a leak in the hose between the radiator and the overflow tank. The tank is supposed to hold excess coolant when the engine is hot and then release it back into the radiator when the engine is cool.

2001 chevy cavalier, was overheating and took out thermostat, let it idle then was not over heating,bought new thermostat put it in then overheated what do i do?


Physically look in the radiator under the cap(if one exsist's) when cool, for coolant level, and check the valve in the cap for sticking. If air is present in the radiator it can't get out, and more coolant can't get in,(from the overflow). Either clean the cap or replace it and check that it is the CORRECT cap.

If radiator is low on coolant fill it to overflowing, replace cap, and check that coolant overflow is filled to the COLD line or mark. The overflow is normally where you would add coolant. (never overfill the overflow)After refilling as outlined above, check the level every morning for 2 or 3 days until coolant level stops dropping below the cold mark and add coolant to the overflow ONLY. Do not open the radiator cap. Also, if you have even a tiny coolant leak anywhere in the system, air will get drawn in, instead of coolant from the overflow.

For more OVERHEATING PROBLEMS try these...
Radiator fins dirty, clean with a strong stream of water, not high pressure water.
Radiator clogged, try backflushing it, or replace.
Thermostat stuck open or shut, replace it.
Water pump worn out, can no longer move enough coolant, replace it.
Fan shroud broken or missing....
Electric Fan(s) not working, Check the fan, relay, fuse and engine temperature sensor's.
Belt driven fan, belt slipping, fan clutch is bad, fan blades have flattened out.

I have a 2001 Alero 3.4L V6; I have replaced the intake gasket the engine itself and countless other repairs but recently the car has been leaking coolant and it has also been overheating. I just replaced...


The first thing i would do is put the coolant system under pressure with
Cooling System And Pressure Cap Tester. if there are any leaks you will find them with that tool. Also check the oil and see if coolant is mixing with it, if there is you may have a bad head gasket or possibly a cracked engine block.

Overheating, leaking antifreeze


Overheating can be caused by leaking anti-freeze, where do you see leaking at? also if fans not coming on can cause overheating and leaking out overflow do to hot? Tell me more so I can help more, which motor you have and more of what its doing

If you changed the hoses and thermostat and the car is still overheating, then the next thing to look at is the water pump. See if the water pump is leaking water from a vent hole. If it is, then the water pump is defective and will need to be replaced. Sure hope this helped.

Your cooling system needs to be pressure checked to see where the leak is. certain auto parts stores rent out a pressure checker. make sure you have the cooling system full before doing the pressure test. check to see if you have a radiator cap and fill the system that way instead of using the resevoir
