Hi John, here in New Zealand we can buy repair threads for this type
of problem. You should find them in your local auto parts store.
Failing that a good engineer should be able to run one up on a
lathe in no time at all.
happy new year

Is it possible for me to change the engine oil as im a new timer on these situations thank you.

"anything is possible"

depending on your vehicle's year make model and engine size, the drain plug and oil filter may or may not be hard to get to

today's era of youtube videos and car owners forums makes it easier than before

look it up to see if it's easy to get your oil filter and drain plug for your car/ truck

SAFETY first! use JACK STANDS & don't rely on the jacks by themselves to hold your vehicle up ~ i've known a neighbor and a co-worker who almost got crushed to death

have backup tools to remove your oil filter in case the previous person didn't lube the o-ring and/or over tighten the filter. i have a strap wrench or correct end-cap oil wrench for my vehicles

depending on how the oil filter is mounted, i usually add some oil right into the filter to get it pre-charged while i also lube that rubber seal/o-ring on the filter....

some say to use NEW oil drain plug gaskets before you torque it down (to specs) each plug has a torque spec; but i got away with re-using it a few times before i replace the gasket.

I spin the drain plug on by hand first to avoid cross-threading ~ then use torque wrench. you don't want this plug to loosen while you're driving on the highway or you don't want to overtighten it and have the threads on the oil pan to strip on you...

do not overfill your vehicle's oil capacity ~ the crankshaft will whip it up to foam, causing your engine bearings to starve for oil

so look up the torque spec for your drain plug, and oil capacity

How do i change my oil?

Remove filler cap,
lift car
then from under the car remove oil pan drain plug.
Allow oil to drain into an oil waste pan.
Change oil filter also ..located under skid plate..use filter wrench to remove filter. Be careful as filter is full of oil ..drain in waste pan
wipe filter mounting plate clean..put a thin coating of oil on new filter gasket before spinning it on to the mounting plate..hand tighten and then tighten about 3/4 more turn.. reinstall drain plug. do not over tighten or you can strip the threads. Install correct viscosity and amount of oil start engine. let run to get pressure up. shut off engine, check level with dipstick and close cap....you are done.

Oil filter spins in housing. scared to try to remove it

Do not remove the filter. If there are no leaks, go to a reliable mechanic and have them see if the threads are stripped on the filter or the engine filter mount.

Oil leak near oil-temp sensor and oil filter

A common problem with leaking oil filters is that they were either cross threaded or the old rubber gasket stuck to the filter mount and now there are 2 filter gaskets there which could leak. As far as the oil sensor you amy be able to tighten it down after removing the wiring harness to make it stop leaking.

Got an oil change, now there's a bad leak. it's on the rite side under the engine.looks like it's coming from a bolt.using 2 quarts of oil a day.

Sounds like they cross threaded oil drain plug or its stripped. Take it back to where you had oil change, see if they can verify & own up to it.

The oil got very dirty due to long use

Get a tube of permatex and put the pan back on...the oil filter is mounted to the block on the outside.
Looking up from the pan, it's a canister filter about the size of a soup can, threaded into the lower side of the engine just above the pan.

The filter is internally-threaded, and mounts on a short nipple spout....turn it counter-clockwise to remove, and put the new filter on hand-tight plus a short snug with the filter wrench*.

*A simple tool, about $5-10 at Autozone.

**For future oil changes, simply remove the drain bolt from the pan, and swap the filter.
