My wife had a similar problem with a 2003 Jeep Liberty. Her problem was that it stalled and she could not get it restarted unless it sat off for 30-45 minutes. It seemed like it was a problem with the alternator and battery but it had just gotten a brand new battery in it and we discovered the starter would roll over after the Jeep sat. We had it towed to the dealership and they replaced the Crank Sensor and the Timing Sensor and the Jeep now runs fine again. Side note: They charged us about $200 to fix these parts.

Use a #20 Torx screwdriver to remove two screws located on the inner side tail light assembly w/ trunk open.Pull taillight assembly straight back from the vehicle to get it off. You may need to utilize a wedge to gently work the top and bottom of assembly away from vehicle on outer side. If so, be careful to use a protective layer (such as a thin piece of cardboard) next to the body to prevent scratching the paint. A wooden kitchen spatula works with out scratching.Once removed, twist applicable light cover counter clockwise and pull to access lightbulb.You may want to apply a small amount of lithium grease to the two plastic stud holes before reinstalling the cover to make it easier to remove the next time.

We have an 02 Liberty 3.7L, here at my repair shop, after customer replaced, spark plug's and all coil pack's, brought it here to my shop, was running with two cylinder's miss, did cylinder compression test, no compression on two cylinder's, remove valve cover's, found two rocker arm's off, remove cylinder head's, and found that on those two cylinder's the valve seat's had drop, keeping the valve open, and that's why the two rocker arm's had come off, do a cylinder compression test, could be the same thing, hope this was very helpful.
