Question about 1998 Mercury Sable
Well i am just a shade tree michanic that relies on common sense and some experance. now is there spark at the coil? you will need to pull coil wire off distributor and lay it close enought to where you unpluged it to see if there is spark from coil to distributer, it should be a bluish spark, if its yellowish that means its weak and might be the problem, you will have to turn engine over to do this. don't hold on to coil wire when you do this, if there is spark it will knock you on your ****. coils do this, work when cold, get hot loose power. also ford motor co. uses a lot of fuseable links most are located around the battery. witch is on the side that was hit, consentrate around there. you can chk. fuseable links, they will have wire in wire out with a round part in middle thats the fuse, grab each wire and pull if its burnt it will pull apart. now if by chance it would start and run for a while and then quit that would be the time to chk. spark. now it could still be ignition module but i believe you need to see if you got fire from coil first. now if your sure you got fire from coil, here is a easy way to chk. module, find and old spark plug, any plug you know is good, pull a plug wire off engine prefer #1 but don't matter and plug in that old plug and ground to anything metal and turn over engine, got spark? good module, no spark bad module. its best to do this after it has run, because modules are like coils may work cold and hot will not. now if you can't do all this, your only recourse is to take coil and distributer module off and take have tested at a auto parts store like autozone. i tried to cover as much as i can, if you need more answers, i'll be glade to help as much as i can. GOOD LUCK.
