Question about Dodge Caravan

Open Question

Where is the oil filter located on a 2013 dodge grand caravan with 3.6 engine

New van and thinking ahead about oil changes. I looked under the engine but did not see the oil filter. I did this without jacking up the vehicle...maybe it is visable if it was jacked up or put on a car hoist?

I have a ford transit van I keep losing loads of oil from the bottom of oil filter why.

there are a lot unanswered questions in your description here, but I will try to give you a few ideas.
when was the oil last changed? is it leaking from where the filter is attached, if so filter needs to be removed & either put back on or replaced. be sure before installing new filter to wet the filter gasket with a little new oil before installation, this helps with seal.

is there a hole in oil filter, if so it needs replacing.

is the filter on front or rear lower portion of engine? check to see where oil is coming from, it may be a front or rear crank shaft seal. which is a major project.

keep in mind that when the engine is running & also when vehicle is in motion the oil will be blowing back & occasionally make it look like the oil is leaking from somewhere else.

if you start by getting under vehicle ( make sure vehicle is properly blocked up so no chance of falling on you. do not trust the jack alone to hold up vehicle) and try to look & see where the oil is coming from.
there only certain places that oil can leak, gaskets, seals, line connections ect...

BEST TO LET DEALERSHIP CHANGE ENGINE OIL.YOU NEED A DEALERSHIP OIL FILTER.YOUR OIL FILTER INSIDE A HOUSING ON FRONT SIDE OF THE ENGINE. CHANGING YOUR OWN OIL NOT HARD.YOU NEED 9 QUARTS OF OIL LOOK INSIDE GLOVECOMPARTMENT FOR OWNERS MANUAL TO SEE WHAT TYPE OF ENGINE OIL YOU NEED TO USE AND HOW MANY QUARTS.IF YOU DONT CHECK READ MANUAL TO SEE WHAT OIL TYPE AND QUARTS YOU NEED. IF YOU BLOW OR DAMAGE THE ENGINE WARRANTY WILL NOT COVER THE ENGINE.FIRST OF ALL TO CHANGE ENGINE OIL YOU CRANK VECHICLE UP LET IDLE FEW MINUTES TO THIN OUT OIL THEN YOU TURN OFF ENGINE. YOU NEED TO RAISE VECHICLE USING THE FACTORY JACK.USE JACK STANDS. LOOK IN OWNERS FOR CAR JACK LIFTING LOCATIONS TO KEEP FROM DAMAGING ROCKER PANELS. AND PLACE A DRAIN PAN UNDER THE OIL PAN. UNDER THE VECHICLE.YOU NEED A WRENCH TO REMOVE OIL PAN DRAIN PLUG.WHEN ALL THE OLD OIL DRAIN OUT IN THE DRAIN PAN.SCREW BACK IN THE DRAIN PLUG TIGHTEN IT DONT OVER TIGHTEN STRIP THREADS.THEN YOU NEED SOCKET TYPE OIL WRENCH YOU USE WITH A 3/8 RATCHET WRENCH REMOVE OIL FILTER HOUSING.PLACE RAGS AROUND THE OIL FILTER HOUSING TO CATCH OIL SPILL. YOU WILL NEED TO GO TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR THE OIL FILTER AND FILTER HOUSING O RINGS. ONCE YOU GET NEW OIL FILTER AND O - RINGS INSTALL THEM IN THE OIL FILTER HOUSING.LOCATED OIL FILLER CAP ON VALVE COVER UNDER THE HOOD.REMOVE OIL FILLER CAP.POUR OIL IN ENGINE USING A FUNNEL.ENGINE HOLDS ABOUT 8.5 TO 9.0 QUARTS OIL. BUT LOOK IN THE OWNERS MANUAL CHECK HOW MANY QUARTS ENGINE NEED.CHECK OIL DIP STICK OIL LEVEL SHOULD BE ON THE FULL MARK ON THE ENGINE OIL DIP STICK.TO BE ON THE SAFE SIDE BUY 10 QUARTS OF OIL FOR A EXTRA.DONT OVER FILL MAKE SURE YOUR OIL LEVEL CORRECT.OIL DRAIN PLUG AND OIL FILTER TIGHT BEFORE CRANKING THE ENGINE.LOOK IN THE OWNERS MANUAL FOR OIL DIP STICK AND LOCATION.

2004 Mercury Monterey Mini Van - At 75k, engine looses power occassionally while accelarating from a light or while cruising in the highway. Check engine light has been on since! Changed spark plugs, fuel...

I had a similar problem. Turned out it was a bad fuel rail pressure sensor. Thew a OBD-II Code P0193. Bought a new sensor and installed it in about an hour. Easy. $40. Depressurize the fuel system first by disconnecting the switch under the jack cover in the rear of the van.

The speedometer repair & general tune up on my 1979 Chevy Van 30

I would think you need to connect that cable up, it will go from the back of the speedometer head, thru the firewall and down under the van to the driver side rear of the transmission, if it doesn't have cruise control, if it does, there will be a cable from the speedometer head to a box, usually in the engine compartment, where another cable will run from that box to the driver side rear of the transmission. The oil filter should be at the back of the driver side of the motor, underneath. The air filter should be on top of the throttle body, there should be enough room to get to it by removing the "doghouse" cover inside the van. I would consider replacing the fuel filter, tranmission fluid and filter. A set of spark plugs wouldn't hurt too.Take a look at the anti-freeze color. Also, check for any leaks once you get it going.

Where is the oil filter?

on most vehicles the oil filter is can shaped and mounted on the engine block, and will be found from under neath of the vehicle to change the oil 1 jack the front of the vehicle and secure it on stands 2 place a collection pan under the vehicle (large enough to hold the vehicles oil capacity) 3 remove the plug on the bottom of the oil pan to allow oil to drain 4 use an oil filter wrench to loosen the oil filter (it will contain oil as well) 5 allow several minutes for oil to drain, the longer the better 6 replace the plug 7 pour some oil into the new filter, and oil the rubber gasket on the new filter 8 replace the filter by hand (do not use filter wrench to tighten) 9 tighten the new filter by hand to one full turn after the gasket touches the engine and no tighter 10 refill from the top of the engine to vehicles oil capacity with recommende weigth of oil note. the engines capacity and the engines capacity with filter differ for the filter will hold oil as well 11 lower the vehicle from jack stands change every 3000 miles when driving in town change every 5000 miles when driving on highway

Changing the oil

Buy four quarts of oil, oil filter, you'll need couple sockets, oil pan, jack stands, hoist, and strap wrench.

(1) Park vehicle on flat surface.

(2) Open hood and unscrew oil filler cap.

(3) Take oil pan and yourself under vehicle and unscrew drain plug to allow old oil to drain out of vehicle.

(4) As oil is draining from vehicle, go ahead and prepare new oil filter by applying some oil to the rubber "O" ring on new filter. Thats therubber ring on the filter that butts up against the block when thefilter is screwed and tightened into place.

(5) Now that the new filter is ready to be used go ahead and put drainplug back into vehicle oil pan at this point all old oil should havebeen drained out.

(6) Go ahead and use oil filter wrench to take off old oil filter, youmay be able to use your bare hands to take this off as these arejust hand tightened let old oil drain from oil filter housing for a fewminutes. Wipe area clean with a rag before putting new filter on. Nowyou can install new oil filter remember to hand tighten new filter onlyyou won't need to use oil filter wrench to tighten oil filter

7) Now you can add new oil by pouring it into the same place you took off the oil filler cap.

(8) After pouring in oil check oil dipstick to make sure you havepoured the proper amount, this is usually done by making sure new oilis at the top of of the crossed section that is at the bottom of thedip stick.

How do I change my oil, where is my oil filter and how do I get to both of these things?

You can almost always find some place like Goodyear, Firestone, Jiffy Lube or Midas advertising an oil change for just slightly more than you can buy the oil and filter. Why would you want to do this yourself? Especially since the first things you need are a jack capable of lifting the front of the car and some jack stands to support it while you are under there. You also need an oil filter wrench and common hand tools. If you don't already have these things, changing your own oil is not the way to save money Then there's the problem of something to catch the oil and where to dispose of it. But if you insist, once you get under there the drain plug will be at the lowest point on the engine. Take a look at the new filter, then look up from the bottom of the engine on either side, you'll see it.

Change the oil on a 2000 Dodge Caravan

Jack up pass side.Put cardboard, BIG piece under engine just in case. Using a pan to drain the oil in put under oil pan drain plug. Remove drain plug with socket wrench. Let drain 5 min. Check the gasket on the drain plug, if bad replace with new gasket .99 cents to replace gasket only on plug. Put plug back in DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN the plug. Slide drain pan with drained oil to the front to remove oil filter. Using a filter wrench remove oil filter. Let drain. When installing new filter put a little new engine oil on the rubber gasket on the filter with your finger. Screw filter back on tighten with filter wrench. Fill van with oil from front valve cover opening.
