SOURCE: PO442 Evatorative Emission Control System Leak Detected

That code is for a small leak in the evap system. Those are sometimes very hard to find, even with the right tool. I would start with making sure Your gas cap is tight and works, maybe even just replace it. Otherwise, I would inspect the evap hoses and lines very closely. look for any cracks or loose connections.

What makes my Chevy malibu 2005 v6 put system code po449 out

P0449 - OBD II Trouble Code Evaporative System Vent Valve/Solenoid Circuit Malfunction Our emissions expert has put together the following information about the P0449 fault code. We have also included diagnostic procedures you can take to your repair shop if the mechanic is having difficulty analyzing the code.
OBD II Fault Code
  • OBD II P0449
Fault Code Definition
  • Evaporative System Vent Control Circuit Malfunction
What does this mean? The evaporative control (EVAP) system captures any raw fuel evaporating from the fuel storage system (e.g. the fuel tank, filler neck, and fuel cap). Under precise operating conditions-dictated by engine temperature, speed, and load-the EVAP system stores and purges these captured fuel vapors back into the combustion process. The carbon canister, which stores the raw fuel vapors, utilizes a vent valve that allows fresh air to enter the EVAP system. This displaces the fuel vapor as it's purged into the combustion process. Code P0449 indicates that the evaporative control (EVAP) system vent valve solenoid is malfunctioning. This can be caused by either too little or too much electrical resistance or a mechanical problem with the vent valve itself. Symptoms
  • Check Engine Light will illuminate
  • In most cases, there are no adverse conditions noticed by the driver
  • In some cases, there may be a noticeable fuel odor caused by the release of fuel vapors
Common Problems That Trigger the P0449 Code
  • Missing fuel cap
  • Defective Evaporative Vent Valve
  • Defective or damaged fuel cap
  • Distorted, damaged or cracked Fuel Tank Filler Neck
  • Torn or punctured Evaporative system hose(s)
  • Defective Fuel Tank Sending Unit gasket or seal
  • Split or damaged Carbon Canister
  • Defective or damaged fuel tank
Common Misdiagnoses
  • Fuel cap
  • Evaporative Purge Valve
  • Evaporative Vent Valve
Polluting Gases Expelled
  • HCs (Hydrocarbons): Unburned droplets of raw fuel that smell, affect breathing, and contribute to smog

Explanation:
The solenoids and system wiring are monitored for opens or shorts

Probable Causes
1- Purge or vent solenoids defective

What does po440 on a 2003 saturn vue mean with a service engine soon light on

That is a problem in the evaporative emission control system.
Could be anything causing it
Clogged filter in the charcoal canister
A leak in one of the vacuum lines
The purge valve not working,,,etc.
The best thing is to take it and have it checked out, they might have to do a smoke test to find the problem.
All they do is inject smoke into the system, if there is a leak the smoke will come out of it. All it takes is a pin hole in these emission systems to screw it all up.

I checked the codes and one comes up its po446. i dont under stand what it mean so i cant fix it to get the light to go out.

P0446 Evaporative Emission System Vent Control Circuit.
The following are descriptions of all Evaporative possible codes:

P0441 Evaporative Emission System Incorrect Purge Flow
P0442 Evaporative Emission System Leak Detected (small leak)
P0443 Evaporative Emission System Purge Control Valve Circuit
P0444 Evaporative Emission System Purge Control Valve Circuit Open
P0445 Evaporative Emission System Purge Control Valve Circuit Shorted
P0446 Evaporative Emission System Vent Control Circuit
P0447 Evaporative Emission System Vent Control Circuit Open
P0448 Evaporative Emission System Vent Control Circuit Shorted
P0449 Evaporative Emission System Vent Valve/Solenoid Circuit
P0450 Evaporative Emission System Pressure Sensor/Switch
P0451 Evaporative Emission System Pressure Sensor/Switch Range/Performance
P0452 Evaporative Emission System Pressure Sensor/Switch Low
P0453 Evaporative Emission System Pressure Sensor/Switch High
P0454 Evaporative Emission System Pressure Sensor/Switch Intermittent
P0455 Evaporative Emission System Leak Detected (large leak)
P0456 Evaporative Emission System Leak Detected (very small leak)
P0457 Evaporative Emission System Leak Detected (fuel cap loose/off)
P0458 Evaporative Emission System Purge Control Valve Circuit Low
P0459 Evaporative Emission System Purge Control Valve Circuit High
---
At least the cap isn't loose for the gas tank.

I would clear the code with an OBD-II Scanner 'erase code' button, and see how long it takes for it to come back.

My check engine light is on and I am getting codes P0449 and P0455. What is this and how do i fix it?

The p0455 is for a leak concern and if that was the only code I'd say give the cap a shot. However the p0455 is most likely just a side effect of the P0449. The P0449 is a test that is run on the vent solenoid circuit to check the electrical functions in basic terms. The computer is putting out voltage amount X and in a properly functioning circuit it knows it will see voltage amount Y come back. It isn't coming back as what it expects to come back at so there must be something electrically wrong with the vent circuit. And of course if the vent doesn't work you get a large leak. If we are just throwing parts at trucks the logical one for you is a vent valve. Since your Vue is a 2008, most likely there is a good chance that it's covered under the emission warranty which is 5 years.
Thank you for using fixya. and be safe.

P0135 is a bad 02 sensor
P0442 is a evap problem
P0449 is a vent solenoid

i would check the vent solenoid first its a 4ws fuse under the hood in the fuse box make sure you have power to it you should have power at all times the ground comes from the pcm i think if you fix this everything else will work they are all computer controled
