Question about 1992 Lexus Sc 400
I`ve done a full tune-up plugs, wires, distributer and buttons all while the check eng. light is on.Far as i know the light is on for a oxygen sensor. It ran smooth for a month since I`ve done that tune-up.One day this mounth I fired it up ran smooth to let it warm up came back outside and it ran worse than it was when I had to tune it up the first time. Now is there any truth to an oxygen sensor controlling the timing to the motor?Like sending it mixed signals?Because now it sounds like its putting.I drove it to get back to my place but it smelled like bad feul trying to burn off, like I said the engine light was on for an oxygen sensor something I did`nt get to yet after paying $200.00 for parts for the tune-up? If anybody have any suggestions I would love to here from you.
The oxygen sensor has no affect or control over ignition timing. Its singular purpose is for the computer to know if the engine is getting too much or too little gas and to correct or "trim" the time and duration of injector pulse.
I would go back and scan again for codes-more might have been set since it started running rough. Post the codes here and someone will try to help you. Fixing the code for the o2 sensor may fix everything, at least one can hope so. Good luck.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,
Initially, try to remove the 3 wire alternator connector. Replace the 30 amps AM2, start the car. If it runs without blowing the 30 amps fuse, have your alternator checked/bench tested.
Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

there are many different components to these systems that can cause the lights to come on. if you have the vehicle scanned by an experienced tech with the proper tools he will be able to pinpoint your problem and tell you what it will take to fix it. diagnostic fee is usually one hour of labor.
