Malfunction message There is a message that indicates malfunction by the mileage and it won't go away even when you turn off the engine. What's the cause of this problem?

My mph, gas, and temp gauges are not working


That's why you don't let you husband work on your car ! Unless he does it for a living .. For MPH there is a VSS - vehicle speed sensor , for the gas there is a sending unit in the fuel tank, for the temp. gauge there is a temp. sensor located in coolant stream on the engine .You more then likely need to have you instrument cluster repaired . GM had a problem with step motors inside the instrument cluster . A step motor is what controls the individual gauge. The sensors are all inputs to the PCM - powertrain control module (engine computer ) .
Engine Coolant Temperature Gage
The IPC displays the engine coolant temperature as determined by the PCM. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the PCM indicating the engine coolant temperature. The engine coolant temperature gage defaults to C or below if:

Fuel Gage

I have a 2010 Chevy impala LS instrument cluster and it has a 20 pin plug I'm trying to figure out which wire's on the back of the cluster are for the speed sensor, rpm, gas, and temp wires.


Boy your way off base . All the gauges are inputs from the ECM - engine computer . The VSS - vehicle speed sensor , ETC - engine coolant temp sensor , sending unit in the fuel tank , All this sensors input the engine computer . The PCM then sends this info on the GMLAN serial data bus ,communications network . The Instrument cluster has a microprocessor inside that translates this info an controls the gauges. You probably have an instrument cluster problem or a communication network problem . Your best bet is to take your vehicle to the dealer or some other qualified repair shop. Need to have it checked for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes.

My malfunction indicator light came on and won't go off


Read your owners manual

Why would a Malfunction Lamp come on,
& then go off, if you don't diagnose the problem
& make the required repair.

That technology is 30 years old & your not
up to speed?

So I changed the oil in my friend car and she has really high mileage on it so I put 10W-30 in it for high mileage an now it won't start can you help me out please


I would suggest a full synthetic oil, next time & stay with 5W-30
That will be better on start up

I have no idea why it won't start after only changing the oil

I think that was just a coincidence

I just installed a new throttle body ,because the motor has
acted up for 7 months & unknown the battery was failing
as I was diagnosing some odd behaveour

I was using professional scan tool software & when that
went weird I saw the computer module & battery voltages
going down,key on,engine off. So strange things happen
with todays electronics. When your think your on your game
things go to the twylight zone

The Check Engine or Service Engine Soon light or an icon resembling the engine is technically called a Malfunction Indicator Light or MIL. It comes on when your vehicle's computer detects a fault that can affect your vehicle's fuel economy and the exhaust emissions.

Here are the five most common reasons your "check engine" light might come on, and what you can expect to pay for the repair, including labor, according to CarMD:

1. Faulty oxygen sensor

Malfunction Indicator Light is on in my 2003 Hyundai XG350. It is not blinking. Won't have money to repair for a week. Can I still drive it? If not, are there any affordable service centers that offer...


When a 'check engine light' (MIL=Malfunction Indicator Lamp) is turned on, there is a DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) set/stored in the ECM/PCM (Engine Control Module/Powertrain Control Module). This code identifies which engine management system component/function experienced a malfunction. Once you pull/read this code, you may begin diagnosis.
