First thing to check is the fuel pressure. The port to do this is on the top of the engine, it looks like a tire valve stem, but metal, you may be able to borrow a tester from Kragen or another parts store like it, they loan tools, no charge, pressure at idle should be around 40 PSI

The po300 is a misfire code.This means there is probably a plug,plug wire,ignition coil,or ignition module.Check the coil towers one at a time.These are know for corroding.If you find one that is corroded then replace the plug wire also.Po171 is a lean condition code.The po300 could be causing the po171.If you have not had a tune up Now would be a good time.Hope this helps.Good luck.

Being burnt, due to a leaking head gasket. Does the car blow white smoke after its warmed to operating temperature. if so then it is a good indicator of a head gasket problem.
