I replaced alternator on my 01 dodge stratus, but car still isn't putting off enough volts to stay i need to reset the comp code? Or is it something else?

Did you test for B+ voltage at heavier gage wire on the back of the alternator ? Also pin 1 at the connector, a orange with dark green stripe wire should have B+ voltage . Fuse #25 20amp in the under hood fuse box. The heavier gage wire has a fusible link in the wire , comes from starter solenoid . The last wire in the connector , a dark green wire comes from the PCM - engine computer . You can replace the alternator how ever many times you like , but if there is any B+ voltage at the place's I mentioned it's not going to charge ! Plus if the PCM is turning it on it's not going to work . There are videos on youtube for testing charging systems.

It does not sound like your battary or alternator. BUT:
You take a 12 v0lt test meter and touch the Positive With tthe red probe and Neg with the black. Meter should read 12 to 14 volts .
Use this same method at the 2 wires coming out of the alternator with the engine running (Keep the cords clear) Push the probesw into the connector on each side. If car won't run remove both and take to your parts store for Free testing..

Sounds more like a short or serge to me.

Yes and no.
It sounds like you have a wiring problem.
The alternator output could be 14 volts and only one or two amps, but that would be enough to kill the warning light. Its more likely the alternator is charging but the current is not reaching the battery.

Battery discharges in about 3 days if not run.

it may have deffective diode on the charging system(the alternator). 14 volts is an over charge in a battery. ampere reading must be on what the battery designed.

2002 mercury montaineer , battery light comes on , they gages shut down couple minutes after then the truck acts like it gonna shut off....when getting a jump, the truck fires right up, couple minutes...

Your battery is definitely low. First clean the terminals on the battery and the inside of the terminal rings on the wires. If you have a slow charger put it on that overnight and see if it holds a charge. If it still keeps depleting or doesn't charge overnight then either your battery or your alternator are done....possibly both. So take the battery to have it load tested. Most places that sell them can test them. If the battery is done replace it then test the battery with a volt meter. If the old battery is still good put it back in the vehicle and test the voltage with a volt meter. With the engine off the voltage should read 12 volts (once its fully charged or if its new) with the engine running it should read around 14 volts. If it is way higher than that or it doesn't go up at all your alternator requires replacing. Alternators are fairly easy to replace but if you don't feel comfortable with that take it in to a mechanic.

You will need an electrical meter that reads volts DC.Turn on the vehicle and probe the battery terminals.The reading should be between 13.2 to 14 volts (approx).Anything around 12 volts indicates an alternater problem,or bad ground.

I have a 06 dodge 2500 5.9L my voltmeter inside my truck reads about 9 to 10 volts when I first start my truck in the morning and my check gages light comes on. After turning my truck off for about 5...

It sounds like your alternator is not kicking in when the truck first starts. There is a wire that "tickles" the alternator to get it charging when you first start the truck, however it will start charging without that once you rev the engine up. A couple of good shots with the fuel pedal should snap the guage up to 14. If it climbs up slowly to 14 then the alternator is starting to wear out or you have poor contact.Get the alternator tested for output. If it's okay take the wires off the alternator and battery and clean up the ends so you have bare shiny metal and clamp them back down tight. Make sure you have radio codes and procedures before you unhook the battery. Hope this helps.

When the Jeep was new the volt meter read 14 the volt meter reads 13 volts with a one year old battery. Since the battery is a 12 volt battery should there be any concern that the volt meter...

It needs to be looked at,hook a volt meter to the battery,and start the engine,turn the ac on high blower,and the head lights on,the alternator should be putting out 13.65 volts to 14.25 volts,if it is any lower than this,replace the alternator,now,if the reading is not the same as in the vehicles volt meter,then the cables,positive and negative need to be replaced,the cables get old,and corrode on the inside and break down,they do not carry the current as they should.Shuold you decide to replace them,go with a larger diameter cable,both positive,and negative.
