Light is on, but what does it mean?

There could be a number if issues that would cause a service engine light. You will need an OBD Code reader to plug into the car's computer and determine the error code and thus, determine what the issue is.

This light indicate the hand brake is pulled up . Check the hand brake , it should be lowered to zero position .

check your owners manual. It will be there.

Yhe indicator that you are seeing is most likely a charging system light (alternator). It could be other things like a brake warning lamp, but I don't know what king of car you are talking about, so I have no way to look it up for you.

In any case, YELLOW or AMBER lights on the dash mean that you should use caution while driving and get the car checked as soon as it is convinient for you. On the other hand, RED warning lamps mean STOP OPERATING THE VEHICLE until you have resolved the cause of the light coming on (unless you like being stranded - or worse!).

It means that the car it's having a problem and it's giving a troublecode to be analysed easier.

If you mean the change oil soon light............ Open the fuse panel; on the side of the dash by drivers door. turn on key but not far enough to start car.
Press the red reset button in the fuse panel until the oil light flashes , release the button and then press it again.
It has been a while since I have done this on an alero , so if you have your owners manual , it might be a good idea to read the instructions in there incase i have it wrong. By the way , the low tire pressure light works the same way.

There is a button (on the shifter console in my alero) that turns oof and on the "trac". I'm not sure of it's purpose but if I push that button, the "Trac Off" light comes on.

The blower is on the right hand side under the dash. You are right in thinking the blower resistor is the problem. The resistor is in the heater box behind the blower. Only 2 bolts hold it in but the back one can be a challenge to remove. The bolt is 5.5 mm.

Check for power and ground with a test light at the resistor connector. You should have power on the colored wires in the various switch positions. The black one is ground.

to be on the safe side go to the dealer or somewhere insured those are not cheap.

the light you are seeing. does it look like a fan blade with hand above it with an X going through the hand?
