Question about 1992 Subaru Loyale

1 Answer

My 1992 subaru loyale 4wd option wagon makes a lound clunking sound when hitting the slightest bump that you can only hear from the inside of the car

I cannot figure this one out...I don't really know a whole lot about cars but it makes this deep clunking noise followed by a slight rattle. I cannot hear the noise outside of the car while it is moving but it is audible inside the car. It doesn't change with speeds, rather it remains the same. What could this be?

SOURCE: '88 Subaru GL wagon 4wd shifter won't go out of 4wd!

If you come to a stop. keep the wheel straight. Put the car in reverse. as the gear catches apply light pressure to the 4wd shifter. It will easily slide back into FWD. If its feels like you have to apply anymore than 5 lbs then put the car in first, drive a foot, and pop it back into reverse applying slight pressure

Mine will have a delay when disengaging and "pop" really loudly. My dad discovered it would disengage much easier if I stopped the car, put it in reverse, and backed up a couple yards. Hope that helps!

follow the cable from the pedal to the gearbox and see if it is kinked or trapped. It cannot be connected wrongly at the ends.

Rear brakes locked on my 92 loyale wagon. How do I

Your rear emergency cables are frozen. You can try pulling back toward the rear of the vehicle on the center cable while someone inside wiggles the lever up and down slightly NOT all the way up. Then by grabbing individually the left cable and twisting and bending it,it may release. Do the same to the other side. Soon as you can get a can of Liquid wrench or an equivelent, NOT WD-40, and soak the two rear lines going to each wheel. ASAP, the rear cables and any other frozen/worn parts should be replaced.

Cost of replacing clutch on 1990 subaru loyale, mystery clunking

It will probably cost you I'm guessing around $700 (including labor) if its a manual, more if its automatic. Subaru's are good cars and usually last out until, and sometimes, beyond the 300k mark, at least in my experience they have.
