look about half way up the drivers side of the transmission there will be a large 'bolt' head its a fill plug loosen it, its only about a half inch long take it out and if fluid runs out or you can take a finger and touch fluid inside the transmission you are good

I have a 99 F150 with 92,500 mi. on it and I have never had mine done and I tow lots of things. The key to transmission fluid and filter change is, if the trans shifts bad or does not pull the same then change it before you do any more troubleshooting, if you change it and still have problems then additional troubleshooting will be necessary. If you want to service your trans for peace of mind then change the fluid and filter, make sure that the level is full and correct. $150 dollars for an oil change on a light duty pickup is a little pricy.
