SOURCE: ford e350 dash controls don't work switch

Well, there is a vacuum canister under the hood that stores vacuum for the heater. Yes, this could be the problem, or it could also be something electrical. By the sounds of your problem i would lean towards a vacuum problem. The vacuum canister will black in color and usually round, it will be on the passenger side, usually by the heater box. there will 2 vacuum hoses on it. Are you hearing any hisses coming from the dash area, or under the hood? That is another sign you have a vacuum leak as well. Hope tihs helps you out....

SOURCE: heater control switch wont switch from cold to hot

your blend door actuator is stripping it's gears. I do not have the manual on where your door actuator is. It's usually right of center under the dash. Look under there and see if you can see anything trying to move when you change the temperature setting (or follow the ticking sound). If you can find the actuator, take it off and see if you can manually rotate the door hinge. If yes, replace the actuator. If not, you will have to remove the heater box to find out why the door is jammed. The actuator looks like this

1997 E350 Eldorado bus passenger heater blowing cold air

There is a separate heater core, like a small radiator, which needs hot water running through it, so when the air blows over it, the air gets hot. It sounds like the diverter valve which sends the hot water to this heater core is not working. It could be a problem with the valve itself, or the relay or switch that controls it, or the vacuum line or device that opens the valve when the switch or relay tells it to open.

I have a 1998 e350 cargo van and the heater won't get hot. replaced the hot/cold button. cant find where the heater control valve goes. or if that is the problem. what should i try?

Check the heater hoses going into the heater core. Both of the hoses should be hot to touch, when the engine is at normal warm running conditions. If only one,or none of the two hoses are not hot,or very warm.then pull the heater hoses off,and use a water hose to flush the heater core out.Make sure the coolant level is full,if it is not, then the heater core will not get coolant flow threw it.

Try this article. I have the same problem and I think it is the vacuum motor that controls the door for changing from hot/cold in the rear heater box (located inside behind the L rear wheel)
