Question about 2001 Oldsmobile Intrigue
For the past few times when trying to start my car, for at least the first three tries, the engine does not turn over, there is no click- no noise whatsoever. The lights will flicker for a second, but not come on. When key is returned to "off" position, the gauges on the dash all flip up and then go back down simultaneously once. The last time it happened, the engine made a whirring noise, then the clock came on, reset. All while the key is in "off". If I wait over two hours between trying to start my car, then it turns on. If it's a wait til of 45 minutes or less, the above occurs.

It may be as simple as cleaning the battery cables.Having the clock reset shows a complete loss of voltage at one point. How old is the battery?

ok; first your car probably has a "rollover switch" this is usally located in the trunk on the right side it can cause this problem but, in your case I think the ground cable that grounds your engine is the culprit check on the engine block for a bolt with a large braided cable that fastens to the frame or sheetmetal of your car remove the bolt(s) and scrape away the paint, grease etc. and, rebolt (the radio is grounded seperately) the gages, lights on dash and, the engine ignition MUST be grounded to the frame to work.

SOURCE: 2000 Olds intrigue: When
if an ignition switch fails, sometimes you can jiggle the key and it will start right up. its very hard to tell. but if you can start it by bypassing the ignition switch, then its the switch itself. go to this site for more detailed info--- aa1car.com/library/1999/cm119948.htm---this page should help. click on top link.
