Hi Lol,
I'm not an Audi specialist however if you follow the top hose from the radiator to the engine block the thermostat housing on most engines is at the end, it may have 2 nuts or bolts securing it.
I hope you are now sorted if not please come back to me and I'll try to get my head under the bonnet/hood of a 90 to find what you seek.
Please remember to rate my efforts,

I have a 1988 Audi 90 the pressure builds up in the cooling system, twice it blew out the freeze plug in the head and this time it blew out all the coolant. any suggestions?

  • You have to make sure the plug is fitted properly. If it's popping out, it is not because of to much pressure, it's because of improper installation. I see it time and time again. Not cleaning the area and preparing the plug accordingly. rust, corrosion, improper installation all lead to the plugs popping out. If you paid take it to someone who will do it right. If this was a home job I suggest a complete Freeze Plug Installation Kit and clean the plug hole completely with sandpaper and see it fits permanently.

I have an Audi A4 1991 2.6 V6 model, with a overheating problem since they fitted a new radiator, it goes up to 90 deg but then after about 10 km it goes over to 100 to 110 deg. Could this be a faulty...

it could be. im surprised it wasnt replaced at the same time. make sure the air is bled from the system after installation. you have to remove the drive belt to access the thermostat. when replacing make sure the small check valve on the thermostat is facing up. heres a couple pictures to aid you. hope this helpsonetufshoppe_84.gifonetufshoppe_83.gif

How do i remove the heater core from a 1988 audi 90? ... my heater core blew and i was wondering if i can get to it from under the dash or if i will have to remove the entire dash to get to it?

If it is necessary to remove the heater assembly, the cooling system must be drained before removing the heater core.
When a heater core leaks, a new heater core is installed or the old one repaired.
Heater Housing
  • The heater housing is usually under the dash and must be removed to gain access to the heater core.
  • Procedures for replacing the heater core vary with the year, make, and model of car. It threfore necessary to consult the manufacturer's repair manuals for the proper procedure for replacement.
f74-01.gif The heater housing is disassembled to get to the heater core. Heater Core
  • Remove the access panels(s) or the split heater/air conditioning case to gain acess to the heater core.
  • Remove the heater coolant hoses.
  • Remove the cable and/or vacuum control lines (if equipped).
  • Remove the heater core securing brackets and/or clamps.
  • Lift the core from the case. Do not use force. Take care not to damage the fins of the heater core when removing.
  • To reinstall the heater core, reverse the removal steps.
When the heater core leaks and must be repaired or replaced, it is a very difficult and time-consuming job primarily because of the core's location deep within the firewall of the car. For this reason always leak test a replacement heater core before installation.

I need to know where the thermostat is located for the Audi A8 V8 4.2 Quattro Automatic 2006

The thermostat is located in front of the engine, between V cylinder banks, for Audi A8 V8 4.2 Quattro Automatic. See pictures below:

Remove the thermostat housing (2 bolts) and the old thermostat. Note the orientation of the old thermostat (vent valve facing UP). Clean both thermostat housing and block surfaces and remove all traces of old gasket material. Install the new thermostat vent valve facing UP.

Please do rate my response. Thanks!

Where is the thermostat?

1993 Audi 90 2.8L SFI 6cyl - Thermostat: is located on the front of the motor under the timing cover, behind the timing belt. Usually this is replaced along with the timing belt job and the water pump.

If you follow the radiator hose up from the radiator on the right side it's up where it goes into/behind the cover.

I hope helps with this (remember arted this help) Good luck.

Audi 90 1988 timing problems

there wil be a mark on your camshaft, alternator, igniton coil and driveshaft and on the motor block for each one of them, set them over there and then put the timing belt on, still i would take it to a mechanic for this, because if you do this wrong you might break off a valve inside one or more of the cylinders and that would be more expensive then to have it done right the first time.

I can't find my thermostat in my 1988 Audi 90, needs to be replaced, please help me find it?

Open the hood,,follow the top radiator hose to the engine,,where the radiator connects to the coupling going into the motor,,this is where the thermostat is (Inside) you have to empty some of the coolant from the radiator,,then take the hose off the coupling, then unbolt the coupling from the engine,,it is aluminum, so be gentle.
Then take the disc like thermostat out from the coupling,,or where it may still be stuck in the top of the motor,,and replace,,,clean both sides of the coupling, and apply sonme gasket sealer,,and new gasket,,then put new thermostat in (the right way) and re-bolt the coupling, and reconnect the hose.
Then fill the radiator with the fluid you took out.. and drive and be happy.

It would be alot cheaper to find a known good one rather than rebuild what you have. It is very expensive to rebuild one of these transmissions.
