don't get me wrong..v.w's aren't my specialty but if your coil keeps going out it's definitly getting to much juice to it.. try calling your neighborhood v.w. dealer and ask for the service dept.

they usually try to help you if you talk to them right.. good luck ray

I have a 1996 RAV 4, but it won't start when the air is damp or it has been raining, it only starts when we've had a few dry days, & although I don;t drive it when started, if it's damp again the

no mileage state, nor from last full tune.
it needs a tuneup this decade.
oldest story on earth (cars) (bad spark)
no ignition parts (high voltage) last the life of any engine,. 300k+
so we do what is called a full tuneup at about 60,000 miles.
also called doing the 60k service point list.
open glove box, take out operators guide, yes, really
turn to the 60k page. bingo.

high voltage breaks down all the insulation,
over time.
all.
even your power company must do this. or BOOM,
Have 2 dead friends from BOOM. 17kv distra. systems.

no engine stated so can not be specific.
my guess, is tghis.
The third-generation 3S-GE was produced from 1994 to 1999.
1996 is a big change year, OBD2
and from Distributor spark to none, at Aug, 1996 they swiched
to the DIS system. with a wasted spark coil pack only.
replace the HV wires, and spark plugs.
end story.

if the scan tool shows, P030x errors. fix X
if x is 2 cylinders it might be a bad coil pack,(last thing to replace)

there are 3 spark systems , at this evolution
Distrubutor with internal coil.
wasted spark coil under TB, with 4 HV wires.
and coil over plugs, later, called COPS, 4 coils.

yours may be wasted spark system with 4 HV wires,. replace them.
show a photo of the engine, and i can ID it. in 1 second.

good luck.

2003 Pontiac Vibe - 4 Cyl. 150k miles. Ignition coils keep going bad - every 4-6k miles. Coil 1 has been replaced 4 times, Coil 3 once. Coil 4 twice in the past year (20k miles). All spark plugs

Install new spark plugs, 4 new coils & replace the oxygen sensors

O2 Sensors are only good for 100,000 miles, then slow
down or quite

No idea why the coils do not last 5 or 6 years

Cylinder #1 is always at the front on a 4 cyl

Go to Rock Auto --Buy Wells Coils,NGK Double
Platinum Plugs & NTK O2 Sensor

Those parts are expensive because you have a Totota
Motor I guess

Our 2002 vw gti 4 cylinder doesnt want to start. there is oil around the spark plug cylinder and the car turns over. We changed the crankshaft sensor a week ago due to it dying out, the problem actually...

Take the distributor cap off, crank the engine, see if the rotor turns.
Put it back together.
Remove the center ignition wire from the distributor cap, put the end of the wire within a quarter inch from metal ground, crank the engine, look for a spark.
The engine needs compassion, fuel, and spark to run. Check one thing at a time

not sure here but i suspect a wire insulation but i do feel this vehcile is too new for this sort of problem ,now as this is a 2008 model i would suggest the dealer as here in europe the software is encrypted so i could not read a code on this year without dealer internet encryption connection .

Time for new plugs and ignition wires. Dont use aftermarket on a VW, just throwing your money away that way. May cost little more but use OEM parts on ignition. Have the car tested before replacing any parts though.

1998 vw jetta turns over but won't start check engine light on

The coil pack on these are bad about being defective. You need to check to see if you have power coming from your coil pack. If you do not try changing it out, this produces 60k +/- volts that goes through your ignition wires, to your spark plugs and ignites the gas on combustion with the piston. If it's not giving off a spark, thenyou're not getting power to fire off the engine.
