My 2004 3.4 6cyl base impalas "hot coolant temp" light came on and the reservoir tank is half way full now when cool. It wasn't a week ago, I haven't added any fluids, what could be the problem?

seems that you have a coolant leak somewhere and when cooling down the leak is sealing and drawing back reservoir water
could simply be a radiator cap problem
have a coolant pressure test done
check under the water pump body for a leak under running and pressure

I ha e a 2008 Chevy impala. If the coolant reservoir is empty does the radiator have fluid, and if so how long before it overheats?

You don't wait for trouble. On a cool engine remove radiator cap, can you see coolant level? With the coolant recovery reservoir, add coolant to cold fill line.

Why is my overflow tank being fill up with coolant from the radiator

it is normal for the coolant to go up and down in level as the engine warms and cools, if it is pushing all the coolent into the reservoir then you may have a blown head gasket which is pushing pressure into the coolent system

Low coolant light stays on

Are you using Dexcool, or have you replaced the coolant with standard Green antifreeze? If you replaced the Dexcool with standard green antifreeze, the low coolant indicator may give false readings. An extremely dirty reservoir bottle can cause the same problem.

I am losing coolant on my car and I see that the coolant from the reservoir is leaking from a little black rubber hose that"s connected to the firewall.

The black rubber hose may be bad and needs replaced. This hose should connect to the radiator at the radiator cap and run along the firewall to the coolant reservoir. Also the coolant reservoir might be cracked and leaking on to the rubber hose, if this is the cause just replace the coolant reservoir which may be a dealer only item, check at you local auto parts store and they will tell you if it is a dealer only item. If you have to replace the coolant reservoir, make sure the car has not been run and the coolant at the radiator is cool, cause when the engine is hot the hot coolant runs into the coolant reservoir till it cools and returns to the radiator when engine is turned off and cools.
