SOURCE: car wont start, not getting spark

crankshaft sensor, or computer on toyotas then it was usually the distributor or the computer, but the crankshaft sensor might be bad too thats what helps to get you spark.

Are you sure your battery is fully charged and also that your starter is operational? If the motor is not cranking over that would be the first place to start looking.

Before you could proceed please ensure that the following sub assemblies in good working condition:
- Battery health and it specific gravity.
- Alternator assembly.
- Starter motor assembly.
- Make sure that battery to engine ground thick cable is neat and firm.
- Check battery to chassis/body ground connection.
If the problem persists, check the following:
- Valve clearance.
- Distributor cap and rotor for any crack or corrosion.
- Ignition coil in the distributor assembly.
- Ignition module in the distributor assembly.
- Distributor assembly.
Hope that works.

Engine stop

If theres no spark from the spark plugs then you would have to replace them?

High consumption of fuel

If you have serviced the engine, changed oil and oil filter and air filter and spark plugs and cleaned the carburettor or cleaned your throttle body and injectors, and its still heavy on fuel then try the following. Adjust the carburettor air and fuel. Take off the distributor cap and clean the rotor and spark pionts in the cap of carbon build up by means of light sand paper. Same applies to the spark/ high tension leads and coil lead metal connection points. Check distributor timing as well. If the engine smokes, do a compression test. If results are beneath factory specifications, remove cylinder head, replace the valve stem seals and re-seat the valves and or replace the pistons and piston rings. Basically engine overhall

My toyota corolla was idline fine then just cut off . no spark in distributor

If your engine cranks normally but will not start and cuts off because it has no spark, or it stalls and won't restart because it has no spark, the problem may be due to any of the following:
A bad pickup inside the distributor a stripped distributor drive gear (common problem with plastic distributor drive gears, broken, loose or corroded wires from the pickup to the ignition module or PCM.
If there is power going from the coil to the dist, but no spark coming out of the dist. the Condenser is bad. Small round thing that has a wire that hooks to the points. If the engine has no spark, check for voltage at the coil positive terminal when the ignition key is on.
If there is voltage, the problem is on the trigger side of the coil (pickup, crank sensor, ignition module or primary wiring circuit).
If there is NO voltage at the coil, the problem is on the supply side (the ignition switch or ignition wiring circuit).
If the coil has voltage, the problem may be a bad high voltage output wire from the coil to the distributor, hairline cracks in the coil output tower, or cracks or carbon tracks inside the distributor cap or on the rotor. You can check this with voltmeter.------------------
That's it.

No spark to the plugs

Replace the ignition module in the distributor, the thump was probably the engine misfiring through the intake manifold. Considering the absence of spark changing the ignition module is the next step to take look on ebay motors to get the best price on parts, however I would still check with the local parts stores to see if there parts are competetively priced cosidering the shipping time from ebay can be up to 5 days.
