Brand new battery, new battery cables. we just took off the 2nd starter and told me it was the same as his astro van. A proper one should have the gear reduction mod done to it. This starter may not have enough power, what do you think? I am getting a new one in the morning

tried that already, the spindle kick in now but it wont turn the motor over

You need to try and jump start the vehicle and see if it will start. It sounds like your battery is bad to me. The interior lights are not a good indication of battery conditon, because a starter can pull somewhere between 30-50 amps draw from the battery, where the interior lights may draw 2-3 amps.
Also check your battery terminals for condition. Baking soda and water solution will clean off corrosion, followed by a terminal cleaner from an auto parts store. I would start there. Let me know if that helps.

before you buy a new starter, you can usually crawl under the car and jump the solenoid. I can't remember if the new starters have the solenoid on them, but you just use a screw driver and short the positive terminal to the terminal on the solenoid, That eliminates everything else. If the engine cranks, you may have a problem like a relay.

If you have eliminated everything like you said, I would agree that the starter is bad. Unless of course you have bigger problems and your engine is locked up or some other major engine problem.

It may be worth pulling all the spark plugs and trying to rotate the harmonic balancer and see if the engine rotates freely.

1994 plymouth voyager wont start - dash lights turn on but no starter/solenoid sounds.

It could be the neutral safety switch, but if the starter was not working correctly before now, it could be the starter or solenoid.
You would need to check for voltage at the starter and work back to the key switch as needed.

1995 chev tahoe...AC quit working. fan would

There is a resistor panel that controls the fan speeds behind the glove box on the dash. You remove the glove box and you will see the airbox. Sitting down in the left top, with 2 screws holding it in, will be the resistor panel. It consists of 4 springs and a resistor. All out of veiw, inside the airbox. Remove the 2 screws and unplug the plug. Pull out the old resistor and replace with the new one. It only cost around $15-20 bucks at the local auto part store. This will get your fan blowing. If your fan is blowing but the air is not cold, I would suggest to check and see if the compressor clutch is working properly. If not, try giving it a light tap while running. If it is working, you may want to recharge your freon.

My 1997 chevy tahoe does not start right away.

Sounds like a starter problem, suggest you get it checked at your local trusted mechanic the next time it starts... If the starter is your problem it wont start for many more times.

97 chev tahoe service engine light is on and it wont start

P0300 is random multiple misfire. If its been more then 3years since the last tune-up, do one. Usually it is caused by debris inside the distributor cap but could also be plugs wires, fuel and air filter.

You need to check battery actual voltage before doing anything else. If battery has been drained or not properly charged, no further testing can be done. Put a volt meter across the battery terminals and make sure you have 12v there. Also check that cable connections at battery (and other end as well) are tight and clean. It takes very little voltage to operate dash lights therefore that is not a good electrical system test.
There are further tests that can be done, but in most cases you will find the problem while doing the ones I've outlined.
If you need more help, post back.
good luck

1997 Dodge Caravan won't start - has a tick tick sound

Hi savvyuserbyo;

That tick, tick sound is probably the starter solenoid trying to activate the starter.

Here's a couple of things you can try. Take a hammer and tap the starter motor (not real hard, just medium) and then try to start it.

The 2nd thing you can do it to take a piece of wire, like lamp cord and(with someone helping) touch one end to the small terminal on the starter. (There is a large battery size wire connected to a large terminal on the starter, this is not the one you use) use the small terminal. Have your helper touch the other end to the positive terminal of the battery.

If the engine cranks. the solenoid is probably bad. If it doesnt crank the starter is bad.

The final thing to do is to remove the starter (after you disconnect the ground lead of the battery) and take it to an Auto Zone type store and have them check it out for you. BTW, starter and solenoid are sold as a unit. I just replace mine on my 94 F159 and is cost $100 exchange. If you need a replacement get a rebuilt rathert than a new. Just as good and cheaper.

Hope this helps Good Luck Loringh PS Please leave a rating if Appropriate. Thanks
