If it's red, it's transmission fluid. Coolant would be green. Check the fluid level, don't let it get low, Chrysler minivans are prone to transmission troubles, and low fluid levels over time will ruin a a transmission. And be sure not to overfill, it's just as bad for the trans. Have the leak checked out and repaired, good luck

I recently had the same issue, but my airbag warning lights also turned on. If this is the case, it might be the clockspring. There is a recall on clocksprings for Caravans 1998 - 2000 I believe. I got it replaced for free in the dealership. Enter your VIN in this site and it will tell you if you are covered in the free replacement warranty.

Hope this helps.

SOURCE: coolant leak from rear of engine in bellhouseing area

Sounds like you have a freeze plug that has rusted out. And it is located in side the bell housing behind the flywheel. You will need to remove the transmission and the flywheel to gain access to the freeze plugs. There are two of them at the rear of the engine above the center line of the crankshaft. One to the left and one to the right.

Make sure it's cool, pop the radiator cap, Remove the shield on the passenger side between the tire and front of engine. Relieve the tension on the serp belt, draw yourself a diagram of the pulleys and belt routing in case the sticker is gone on the strut tower, remove the serp belt. Take the bolts out of the pulley on the front of the water pump (3). Remove the lower radiator hose at the front cover to drain the coolant. Remove the 6 mm bolts holding the water pump to the front cover housing. tap on the pump with a rubber hammer. Install a new gasket on the new pump, and a weap hole diverter in the pump (round black about hte size of a quarter), use old one if there's no new one. Install pupm and tighten bolts snug with a 1/4" ratchet. Install pulley and 3 bolts. Install belt, top off radiator with 50/50 mix green coolant. start engine and run to operating temperature, make sure the belt is seated in all of the pulleys and is running true, radiator fans should come on. Shut engine down and let cool overnight. Check level in radiator and overflow bottle, top off as necessary.

SOURCE: 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee, leaking coolant from

not unless you have coolant in your oil(it would look like chocolate milk on your dip stick) its probably leaking out somewhere up above and dripping down to that spot where your finding it. wipe everything down, start the engine and watch it as it runs to see if you can identify its point of origin.my guess would be the radiator hose or the thermostat housing. hope this helps

V6 coolant leak

If it is in fact between the bellhousing and block, and not leaking down onto the outer surface of the bellhousing, its the freeze plug on the back of the block.
The engine or trans would need to be pulled to get to it.

A call to the dealership should be able to get you the official name but I would desribe them as the rear heater core lines. These lines basically supply heated engine coolant for the rear heat. A dealership parts dept can pull up a diagram of the vehicle based on the VIN number and give you the exact name and part number.

I have a dodge grand caravan 1999. why would coolant leak from the bottom left corner of the radiato? it looks like the drain plug but wont do anything but leak all of a sudden as soon as i add coolant....

You need to look around, shine a flash light around the sides, top, bottom, and front and back of radiator, and around the radiator cap, look for any white or rusty brown stains. This should help you in your diagnosis. It is possible to leak from the drain but it would not just start out of the blue. If you are leaking from the drain there is another issue such as high pressure in the coolant system which could come from a failing thermostat or water pump, or a serious clogging problem.

Coolant leak on 97 grand cherokee, looks to be coming from the rear of the block between the transmission and oil sump is there a core plug (freeze plug) that end of the block, and how do i get at it

There are two on the rear of the block. If leaking, the coolant will be coming from inside the bellhousing. This part you won't like....you need to remove the transmission to get at them. Check carefully that nothing external is leaking before doing anything further.
