Question about BMW 528
My 99 BMW 528i with over 100k-miles Diagnostics showed a code3 po740. I was told it is tcc silinoid. A BMW mechanic on ''just ask'' had said it is a hard shift, whatever that means. If it is a transmission issue, I know that on highways (only) when I have to slow down quick like at toll booths, it is difficult to spead up again. I do not have this hesitation at any other time.
I am petrefied of transmission shops. They buy a new yacht at every repair, even if it is minor. Please help with with your best advice.
Your right in as much as it shouldnt need complete over haul but a competent auto trans technician to clear the shift fault.It could be a solenoid or check valve that should be able to be repaired with out the transmission having to be removed.

Torque converter clutch,inside torque converter.There is a solenoid or set of solonoids on side of trans. Filters may be clogged or could be internal t/Converter failure.Will cause engine rpms to be about 250 rpm high an loss of fuel consumption.Otherwise will still keep running

If your talking about what would a dealership change, it generally consists of a tune up, including spark plugs, plug wires, air filter, oil change, pcv valve, and fuel filter. Thats also usually when they want to replace the timing belts. There may be one or two other things specific to BMW, but generally thats what you can expect.

the tcc solenoids are in the transmission,but the computer sees that the torque converter didn't lock up,so it blames the solenoid in charge of doing that,
but you will probably find the converter is going bad,a tranny shop will be able to verify which is not working.
