Key will not release sometimes on my 99 Jimmy. If I wait about 15/20 min, I go back to the car and the key comes out. I don't know for sure, but I think that the car has to cool down before the key releases.

Those cars have a linkage between the steering colum lock, the ignition switch and the shifter...try to wiggle the steering wheel while trying to turn the key. verify that the shifter is in park. If this doesnt work u may either have a fault in the mechanism on the shifter or the ignition switch may be bad, but i bet with some wiggling ull get it out. Then spray some lube (e.g. wd40) into the switch.

Pull the steering wheel tightly to one side, or rotation,, and then twist and turn your key back and forth to see if it gives.
When you get it out,,,you may want to consider replacing the ignition key tumbler unit.

Try spraying a little WD40 into the ignition . Make sure tension is off the steering wheel. Turn steering wheel back and forth while trying to remove key.

1998 Ford Escort steering wheel lock will not unlock. Seems jammed.

The steering wheel was turned when the key was removed. So when you try to turn on the key, turn the wheel one way and the other way to release the pressure on the key. The key should turn ok.
Hope this helps.

Ignition key will not turn in a 1995 gmc sierra

Turn your steering wheel left or right side. If it moves, then good for you. But if doesn't, it probably means that locking system in the steering wheel is damaged. For this, you can just turn the steering wheel opposite to the direction of the car wheels. Most of the time, cars are turned off with the wheels turned on the opposite directions, which makes the key get stuck in the ignition due to pressure in the steering wheel. When the pressure is released from the steering column, a click can be heard and key is released.

If no luck, there might be a problem with shifter mechanism, which means that you have a trip to the repair shop in store for you. Get this problem addressed immediately, as it could mean that your shift interlock is out of order, which can increase the chances of deploying the air bag up in your face, causing a serious injury.

You need a lock plate removal tool, napa sells them ,they are cheap, and the pin in the key cylinder? Use a punch to destroy the pin.

1996 isuzu trooper steering wheel won't unlock

Firstly, if your steering wheel will rotate about an inch, while in the locked position, do the following:

1) swing the wheel as far as it goes, then hold it tightly in position (it may want to return back to position, butdon't let it go!)

2) insert key into ignition, and turn key to "ON", not start.

3) see if steering wheel will now release...

Please advise if this works...

If no, then need to go to next step...

Await your response....
