Hi there... If I'm inderstanding your question correctly. You turn the key on and pump runs for three seconds and turns off. this is the normal activity for a puel pump. When you turn on the key, the pump will prime for three seconds and then turn off. once you start your vehicle, the pump will run continuosly because the fuel is being used.

The relay is supposed to run for a few seconds to bring the fuel pressure up to specifications,,then shuts off again,,this is normal behavior in most cars with electric fuel pumps.
When you start the vehicle, the pump will cycle on again and shut it'self down when it needs to.

1994 Ford escort GT 1.8liter my fuel pump is not kicking off after three second's it runs consitly while the key is in on position why

Maybe your fuel pump relay is sticking on, and needs replaced. Even when you turn it off from running, and then key back to on, it keeps running constantly? The computer signal to the relay, energizing it to pass power to the pump, should only last 2 or 3 seconds. I think it automatically stops the signal after that short period. The relay should click off then and stop the pump. The computer would signal it again when it senses the engine cranking, but not until then.

Bad relay. Bad fuel pump. You can go to the fuse/relay panel under the hood and swap relays with another one like the A/C relay and try it.
Then the pump may have gone. One common cause is driving with 1/4 or less tank of fuel. Fuel in the tank is very important now days as it keeps the pump thatis inside the tank cool.
Also if you turn the key and don't hear the pump, wait a few seconds before turning it again. If you turn the key off and on too fast the system does not respond that fast.

Fuel Pump Electrical Circuit
When the key is turned ON with out the engine running, the control module turns a fuel pump relay ON for two seconds. This builds up fuel pressure quickly. If the engine is not started within two seconds, the control module shuts the fuel pump OFF and waits until the engine starts. As soon as the engine is cranked, the control module turns the relay ON and runs the fuel pump.
When the engine is cranking or running, the control module receives the Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor reference pulses which in turn energize the fuel injectors. As a back-up system to the fuel pump relay, the fuel pump can also be turned ON by a fuel pump oil pressure switch. When the
engine reaches about 28 kPa (4 psi), and the fuel pump relay does not complete the circuit, the fuel pump oil pressure switch will close to complete the circuit to run the fuel pump.

An inoperative fuel pump relay can result in long cranking times, particularly if the engine is cold. The fuel pump oil pressure switch will turn ON the fuel pump as soon as oil pressure reaches about 28 kPa (4 psi).

You can test to see if the relay it's self is bad by swapping it temporarily with another relay. If your truck has AC then that one should be compatible. Just compare the two to see if they're the same and if so, try using the AC's relay.

I have a 03 f150. It turns over but wont start. Where do i start

With the crank no start, 4 things straight away to check.

1. The Fuel inertia Switch. This is in the passenger side kick panel, it is a button that you push down to reset. The kick panel is marked where it is, you might want to use a mirror to see it.

2. The fuel pump relay & Fuse. If you turn the key from off to run ( do not start ) with the door open, do you hear the fuel pump cycle ? If not, either the fuse or the relay is bad. My 2001 at ~ 36K miles had the fuel pump relay go bad, swapped with the trailer tow reverse relay, and it started right up. These are right next to each other in the fuse panel in the engine compartment - check you owners manual for the locations.
If you did not get an owners manual with your truck ( purchased used ), you can download one from Ford :

3. Fuel pump - Use a rubber mallet to thump the bottom of the fuel tank. If the fuel pump is on the way out, this could shake it loose, and start working again. Also could be a plugged fuel filter, when was the last time you changed it ?

4. Is the theft light flashing ? If you turn the key from off to run ( do not start ) does the theft light go out after ~ 5 seconds ?

Obviously there are other things that can cause this symptom, but in my little section of the world, these are usually the issue .

First, check the fuse ECM B in the engine compartment relay box. If it looks good, swap it with another 20 amp fuse just for kicks. Try the pump again. If there is another relay similar to the fuel pump relay, swap those as well. You don't want to replace the PCM unless you have to. It is rarely the cause of this type of issue. I will need your engine size to tell you where your computer is, please.

Where is the fuel relay located and the fuse on a 87 s10, i think ive found the relay on the fender but theres three that look the same which one is which???

They are all the same part number replacement relays so you can swap them around to see if one is bad
The fuel pump relay will not work the fuel pump intitally for the oil pressure sensor has a 3rd wire running to the fuel pump. When you set the key to the ON position the oil sensors 3rd wires circuit will send 12 volts to the fuel pump to prime the fuel up the the injectors. You can hear it running for 5 seconds with the ignition key set to the ON position. DO NOT START the engine when testing for the sound of the fuel pump/ If no sound of the pump is heard, replace the oil sensor first

1994 mazda b2300 turns over fine but won't start not getting fuel, i do not hear fuel pump when i turn key

There is a fuel pump "roll over" valve in the floorboard on the passenger side. It stops the fuel pump from running incase you roll the vehicle to prevent a fire. Check that the switch didn't trip from someone possibly kicking it or something. Then check any fuses or relays (swap relays if you have a spare or switch with the same on in a different slot). If everything checks out ok, then you probably need a fuel pump

Check all the connections that go to the pump and make sure they are all clean and tight. Also check the fuel pump relay and make sure it has good contact in the pins that it goes into.Swap it with another relay and see if it works all the time.If it does then replace the relay.Hope this helps.Good luck.

Check the fuse under the dash. Did you replace the inline fuel filter? If not, you could loosen the line going into the filter then turn the key to the on position. The pump should run for about 2 seconds then the relay should kick off. Turn off the key for approx. 5 seconds then cycle key back on and the pump should cycle again. If you get a 2 second burst of fuel each time then the pump is cycling. Install a new fuel filter and check the grounded wire by the tank. Hope this helps. :)
