The most obvious places are the Power steering rack itself - at each end, and the hoses that are attatched to it.
A leak at the pump is easily spotted.
Hoses are cheaper to replace than seals on the rack (which may require a new unit)

YOU CAN GET A USED PUMP FOR UNDER 50.00 AND IT IS EAY TO INSTALL AND DONT FORGET TO BLEED AIR FROM SYSTEM AFTER REPLACEMENT

Your noise is either from old age of the pump or you have an air leak in the system somewhere. Carefully check the lines, pump, rack & pinion and hoses on the power steering system for signs of damp/wetness. If there are no visible leaks, then the problem will be worn bearings in the pump itself.

I have the same problem with 05 XC90 2.5T.. It seems like there is a problem with the power steering pump. And the only way to fix it is to change the pump. Now i'm trying to use the lucas stop leaking thing as well and will see what happens.
