Need to install a serpentine belt for a 1995 Chevy Cavalier..how?

I was driving along and I lost my power steering and the battery light came on. The car started to overheat, so I pulled to the side of the road to check problem. The serpentine belt had slipped off. I need to know how to move tensioner pulley to reinstall belt.

There is a Large Pulley above the Tensioners Small Pulley. This Larger Pulley has a Bolt in the Middle of it. Geta Socket and Wratchet and Tork this Bolt and it will Lower the Tensioner so that you can Reinstall it.

I lost power steering on a 2007 Equinox after changing the serpentine belt. Any suggestions?

Are you sure you have the belt installed correctly? Not hard to make a mistake. Did you get any oil or fluid on the belt? Did you change belt tensioner at same time? Usually a good idea.

My chevy maLIBU ALTERNATOR BELT SPINS THEN STOP CAR WON'T GO ANYWHERE

Vehicles: Chevy (GM) Malibu 2001-2005 3.1L SFI OHV 6-cylinder

Your battery has died since the alternator is not charging it. Jumping the car works to start the engine since the Malibu is using the energy of the second car to start and turn the engine.
Its possible that your belt may not be correctly routed or tensioned.

Check your 3.1L engine accessory drive belt routing. The arrow points in the direction in which the drive belt moves.

NOTE
Routine inspection of the belt may reveal cracks in the belt ribs. These cracks will not impair the belt performance. The belt should be replaced if the belt slip occurs if a section of the belt ribs are missing. A single serpentine drive belt is used to drive all engine accessories. All belt driven accessories are rigidly mounted with the belt tension maintained by a spring loaded tensioner. The indicator on the movable portion of the tensioner must be within the limits of the marks of the stationary portion of the tensioner. Any reading outside of these limits indicates either a defective belt or tensioner.

(1) Remove engine mount.
(2) Rotate the drive belt tensioner in a clockwise motion using a breaker bar or serpentine belt tool.
(3) Remove the drive belt.

To install:

(1) Rotate the drive belt tensioner in a clockwise motion using a breaker bar or serpentine belt tool.
(2) Install the drive belt. Connect the serpentine drive belt last to the power steering pulley.
(3) Install engine mount.

Battery light is on and stiff to steer the wheel

Sounds like the serpentine bellt has come off the drive pulleys. this belt is the link between the crankshaft pulley and all the other pulleys. it drives the power steering pump, a/c compressor, and your alternator.
Stiff steering due to no Power steering pump activity and the battery light is on due to the alternator not charging the battery and supplying power to vehicle components.

I was driving my car and when turning i lost my power steering and brakes when i parked i turned off the engine and after that it wont restart. later on we found that the sparks wernt getting any fuel but...

Question?? did you lose your serpentine belt, so your lost your power steering and then the engine died. Or did the engine die and then you lost the power steering??? If the engine died, may be the fuel filter has reached the end of it's life and dirty and needs to be replaced, If the engine was running and you lost the serpentine belt, the belt may have taken out your crank shaft sensor, so the engine does not know when to command the #1 injector to fire to get the engine to start. Keep me posted, be glad to help you get your car running

Loss of power steering and battery light

Hey there Cyber,

Classic symptoms, belt failure. Be glad you don't have a serpentine belt, the engine would have overheated too.

If you work close to home, it may even be a serpentine and just didn't have time to overheat.

At any rate: One of your belts powers both the Alternator and the Power Steering Pump. That belt is either very loose or laying on the road between your home and workplace.

The good news:
This is one of those lucky circumstances where the more that looks like its broken, the cheaper and easier it is to fix. If it was only the Alt. or P/S that would mean all sorts of diagnostics, tests, etc.

Both at once? The belt.
The cost? Less than $20.00 if serpentine. Less than $5.00 if not.

If the old one is still hanging there, it will be useful when getting a new one (to size it).

Let me know if you feel like replacing it yourself.
If it's a serpentine, click here for the procedure (the trick) to get it on.

Once the new belt is on the only thing you'll need is a jump.

Any additional questions? Just comment me back.

Thanks for using FixYa
