Question about Plymouth Reliant

1993 ford ranger. the truck will not start. I ran a koeo scan and got the following codes: 116,114, 513, 542. Im thinking my truck uses 3 digit codes not real sure. if not i would have the following 2 digit codes: 11, 61, 14, 51, 35, 42. any help would be great

I am adding the codes for you it looks like you may have some wiring problems or a faulty PCM be sure you check the power and ground circuits before you start replacing parts a short in a circuit could damage the new part 11 O,C,R Pass (separator code)14 C Profile Ignition Pick-up circuit fault 61 O,C Coolant Temperature sensor circuit grounded 51 O,C Coolant Temperature sensor circuit open 35 O,C,R EGR Valve Pressure Transducer/Position Sensor voltage out of range (high) 42 R Heated Oxygen Sensor circuit indicates system rich, right side THE THREE DIGIT CODES ARE THE SAME CODES JUST IN A OBDII FORMAT (for a different type of scantool)

    after a little more thought and research the 3 digit codes are as follows 116 O,R Coolant Temperature sensor out of self-test ran 114 O,R Intake Air Temperature sensor out of self-test range 513 O Internal voltage failure in PCM542 O,C Fuel Pump circuit open; PCM to motor

    with this amount of codes you should start by disconnecting the battery to clear all the codes then try starting the vehicle several times and see what codes return you will only get what is called hard codes that is to say problems that the computer found during a key on engine off situation these will be the ones that are keeping it from starting like the PIP code

    Brian, I disconnected the batt for a couple of hours, I was able to start the truck to operateing temps after I cleaned the o2 and throttle control switch. I ran the koeo test and got the following codes: 33 1 33. I looked up the codes and it says EGR Valve Position (EVP) sensor or Pressure FeedbackEGR (PFE) sensor- signal voltage is below minimum specifications. or, EGR Vacuum Regulator (EVR) solenoid circuit problems. or, EGR valve is not in its normal position. Now the problem I am having is, I can't find the EGR valve on the motor. I know what an EGR valve is, I just can't seem to find it!

the fuse box is inside the pickup under the drivers side dash, there is a flasher which is the round one in the fuse box, it controls turn signals and emergency flashers also in the same fuse box, there is a 15 amp fuse which controls just the turn signals it sits vertical instead of horizontal.

light blue/red is  for "PCM sens" it should be less then 2 ohms. and tan/light blue is  for "PCM return" it should be less then 2 ohms

Clean the MAF sensor with Throttle Body Cleaner. This cleaner is intended to be used on Fuel Injection intake manifolds and parts.

To clean the sensor:
1) Disconnect the MAF electrical plug
2) Remove the two security torx screws (you can get the correct torx bit at the parts store with the hollow center)
3) Gently pull the sensor out of the air intake
4) Spray the heck out of the two small resistors with the cleaner with the spary tube attached to the can (they should appear a shiny silver color all over)

WARNING: DO NOT CLEAN THE RESISTORS WITH A COTTON SWAB OR TOUCH
THEM AT ALL. They're very fragile and can break.

5) Reinstall the sensor

It could be the mass air flow sensor. Its mounted to the side of the air cleaner. Just unplug the electrical connection to bypass the unit. If this is the problem the vehicle should run smoothly.

I am a Ford dealer Tech and this is what cures this issue most of the time.

, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.

if u can gain access to the ignition switch wiring use a testlight and probe each wire while turning the ignition at start position.one of these wires shld have power during starting position and release it again to confirm.this wire goes directly to the trasmission multi lever position swicht (mlp).this MLP is mounted just outside the transmission shifting lever ganged together.Trace the corresponding return wire using the testlight. You may need someone to help you do the job.The return wire usually go to a relay on your fuse box on the engine compartment.Then from relay to the starter.

does it have an accelerator cable ? if not , it may have an electronic
accelerator... and that could be faulty

have you removed the egr and checked for plugged in the egr port or damage to the egr itself... i think it's more of a flow issue associated with the position of the egr and not the solenoid itself... koeo/koer tests are a pain even with a break out box... good luck as this year (early 90's) of Ford's are the worst for diagnosing computer/running issues

It has koeo code of (22-12-2) I clear them and they don't clear. soon as I reconect batt i check for code before even starting again and codes are thier.


22 manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor circuit out of range
you have a hard fault for the MAP sensor, this means the MAP sensor is either disconnected or defective, replace it if it is connected.
