P0650 p0381 indicators on the gauge clusters arent working and some are dimmed. my compass and temperature gauge doesnt isnt working. i am getting the codes p0381 and p0650. any help you can give me would be great

SOURCE: Can't get the outside temp. showing in the inside backview mirror

Check the connector that plugs into the back of the mirror and make sure it is pushed in all the way. If that is not it, look carefully at the wires going into the connector. I had one that broke off. I had to pull the pin out of the connector and re crimp it onto the wire.

i'm having trouble with the cluster in my 2500HD truck
1. the RPM and Oil gear works some of the time.
2. the drivers side windows wil not work and the relay to the secetion gets very hot.

How much have you driven vehicle? You need to drive long enough for computer to reset refrence points onboard. If that does not work, you have a bad voltage limiter on your instrument cluster board!

I have a 2003 Ford Expedition. It is showing overheating and then will shoot right back down. We've replace the thermostat but that doesn't seem to be the problem. doesnt appear to be overheating.


Bad gauge , maybe !

Temperature Gauge
The PCM receives the engine coolant temperature status through hardwired circuitry to the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor. The instrument cluster receives the engine coolant temperature data from the PCM through the SCP communication network. The instrument cluster microprocessor monitors the engine coolant temperature data received from the PCM and commands the temperature gauge indication with a corresponding movement of the pointer.

At the dealer we would hook up factory scan tool an see what the PCM is seeing for coolant temp . then go into data stream of instrument cluster an see if it is receiving the same data . , Your best bet , take it to a ford dealer . Before you start replacing parts that don't fix the problem .

Temp guage not working 1999 alero


One advantage us dealer tech's have over a week end warrior is that we have factory service repair information and have factory scan tool ,Tech 2 , to check data coming into the instrument cluster . Most of you probably don't even think about how that coolant temp infor shows up on the gauge , except by a coolant sensor !

High Temperature Indicator
The high temperature Indicator function handles the control of the Engine Temperature Gauge Display and the red High Temperature indicator. The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) reads the Coolant Temperature Sensor, filters the messages, and sends the coolant temperature to the instrument cluster via a Class 2 serial data message. The PCM monitors the coolant sensor in order to determine a fault. The PCM transmits the Class 2 serial data coolant temperature report messages to the instrument cluster for the temperature gauge display and for the high temperature indicator control.
The instrument cluster receives the engine temperature data in the Class 2 serial data message from the PCM. The instrument cluster converts this data into a temperature gauge pointer position which drives the gauge pointer. The instrument cluster also uses this data in order to determine the high temperature indicator control.
The Body Control Module (BCM) looks for the high temperature indicator Class 2 serial data report from the instrument cluster and triggers a chime when the indicator is ON.

Your best bet , take it to a qualified repair shop , rather then just replacing parts .

What is code p0650 and what is mil control system


P0650 - Malfunction Indicator Lamp Control Circuit Malfunction

Possible causes- Harness or connectors for the MIL circuit is open or shorted. Check connectors to instrument cluster.
- MIL bulb may be faulty, check this first.
- Faulty ECM. Very rare that this is the problem.

After disconnect and reconnect the battery of my opel antara, the indication of odometer displays only 888... for all indications. How can i reset it?


This solution will be of great help to you,even in the case of future or other dashboard problems;
Instrument cluster consists of electronic analog gauges, various warning lights, and optional tachometer. Vehicles equipped with tachometer have an electronic vacuum fluorescent transmission range indicator (PRND3L),odometer and trip odometer display. Vehicles without tachometer are equipped with a cable-operated transmission range indicator.
Instrument cluster is equipped with the following warning lights:
Battery voltage.
Cruise (speed control).
Door ajar.
Fasten seat belt.
Lift gate ajar.
Low fuel level.
Low windshield and washer level.
Traction Control.
The Body Control Module (BCM), which receives input from various sensors, sends display information to instrument cluster and operates gauges. Instrument cluster incorporates a self-test diagnostic feature to identify electronic problems. BCM, Powertrain Control Module (PCM), and Transmission Control Module (TCM) are continuously monitored by the diagnostic system.

SELF-DIAGNOSTICS
With ignition off, press and hold TRIP and RESET buttons while turning ignition switch to ON position. Continue to hold TRIP and RESET buttons until odometer window displays CODE (approximately 5 seconds). If problem exists, system will display diagnostic trouble codes. See DIAGNOSTIC CODE CHART table. If no problem exists, Code 999 (end test) will be displayed.

Calibration Test
CHEC-1 will be displayed in odometer window. Each of instrument cluster gauges will move sequentially through each calibration point. See GAUGE CALIBRATIONS table. If gauge needle is not calibrated properly, a problem in instrument cluster exists.

Odometer Segment Test
CHEC-2 will be displayed in odometer window. Each segment of odometer will light sequentially. If any segment does not light, replace instrument cluster.
Electronic Transmission Range Indicator Segment Test
CHEC-3 will be displayed in odometer window. Each segment of electronic transmission range indicator will light sequentially. If any segment does not light, replace instrument cluster.

Tempature gauge doesnt rise like it should


Mostly likely being the temperature gauge isnt going to the normal position usually indicates a problem with your engines thermostat, this problem with the thermostat usually is accompanied by poor heater output so if your heater isnt getting as hot as it use to chances are your thermostat is opening to soon or is stuck in the open position which is why your temp gauge isnt rising to the normal halfway point like it should...

Fuel& Temperature Gauges are sticking Example gas tank full of fuel but only reads half full, temperature reads hot but engine is running at normal temperature What is wrong and how can we fix it


they could be seperate problems. the fuel level sender in the tank may be bad. the 2 wire coolant temp sensor may be faulty. there may be a bad ground some where or a bad connection in the harness. although it is common for the circuit boards in the cluster to go bad and you get funny readings on one half or the other. i would start diagnosing the cooling problem first. those engines have an air bleed valve above the t-stat. make sure there isnt a pocket of super heatad steam in the system (first indication of a small leak). the cts also controls the fan relays through the pcm. are the fans comming on as the temp guage passes half way? what does the guage do when the key is on, engine off, cts unpluged, and the connector jumpered or grounded? the guage should have a full sweep if it doesnt sweep the cluster or harness are suspect

2003 F-250 instrument cluster...


it sounds like you are getting a surge of voltage from your alternator/generator. Very strange.

the dealer can run a diagnostic test & pull fault codes or you can try this. If this helps, please report back & rate as fixya. Thanks. I am curious what you find as root cause. Good luck.

Instrument Cluster Self-Diagnostic Mode
To enter the instrument cluster self diagnostic mode with the engine off, depress and hold the odometer reset button. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position and hold until the gauges sweep (within five to eight seconds). Depress the reset button once to advance to each stage of the self-test.
Turn the ignition to the OFF position to exit the instrument cluster self-diagnostic mode. If no DTCs related to the concern are retrieved, proceed to the Symptom Chart to continue diagnostics.


Instrument Cluster Self-Diagnostic Mode Odometer display Description GAGE Carries out gauge sweep of all gauges, then displays the present gauge values. Also carries out the check sum test on ROM and EEPROM. All segments illuminated. Illuminates all odometer segments. bulb Illuminates all micro-controlled lamps and LEDs. r #### Returns to normal operation of all micro-controlled lamps and LEDs and displays hexadecimal value for ROM level (used when requesting assistance from the hotline). nr#### Displays hexidecimal ROM level and type as stored in non-volatile memory (NVM). EE ## Displays hexadecimal value for EE level (used when requesting assistance from the hotline). dt #### Displays hexadecimal code for the final manufacturing date. ###C Gas engines display last temperature gauge input value from SCP, temperature gauge will indicate present temperature. Diesel engine displays present temperature analog/digital input in decimal as a ratio, temperature gauge will indicate present temperature. dtc #### Displays a 16 bit DTC in hexidecimal format. DTCs displayed are those detected in continuous operation not during self-test. EnG Displays English speed value being input, speedometer will indicate present speed. m Displays metric speed value being input, speedometer will indicate present speed. tAc Displays the tachometer value being input to the instrument cluster. Tachometer will indicate present rpm. FUEL Displays the present analog/digital fuel level being input to the instrument cluster as a ratio. OIL Displays the last analog/digital reading of the oil pressure switch contact resistance, oil gauge will indicate present level. br Displays the brake fluid level in an analog/digital ratio value. bAt ##.# Displays present battery analog/digital voltage. rhEo Displays present hexadecimal pulse width modulation (PWM) dimming input. rhi, rhS, rho Alternating 1 second display of pulse width modulation (PWM) input duty cycle, SCP hexidecimal dimming step, output driver counts in hexadecimal.
