You have an inline fuel filter on the inside of the frame, infront of the rear tire on the driver's side. It has a metal shield/cover that has like 3 small bolts that have to be removed to take off the plate. Once you take off the plate you can see the filter better. It is metal and fairly easy to change. these do need to be changed, especially the newer models with fuel injection. The filter in the fuel tank is a screen to keep **** out of the fuel pump itself. If you have an older Jeep Wrangler, there are images and instructions on how to change them out located here: Here is a clickable link:
Hope this helps good luck.

My jeep has a hard time going past 55 mph. 4 cylinder. Any thoughts?

is it missing out, if so, i would check the condition of the spark plugs and wires, also check or replace your fuel filter and air cleaner if you haven't already done so.

Where is the fuel filter on the 2006 jeep wrangler?

Your Wrangler does not have an in-line filter. The only fuel system filter is inside the fuel tank on the inlet side of the fuel pump. This filter is not usually serviced.
