SOURCE: Why does my overdrive light flash while i drive. I have a 1999 Ford Explorer.

It means the transmission has seen a fault and there will be a code set for the fault. Get the trouble codes read at an auto parts store such as AutoZone where they usually do it free and post the code if you can. It can reset its self every time you turn the vehicle off but it will not fix the problem. Could be a minor or a major problem so you don't know till the codes are read.

SOURCE: overdrive light flashes on and off

This will occur if the control solenoids that are located inside the pan on the valve body, are malfunctioning. First, i would check the fluid level. if the fluid level is proper, have the tranny flushed and change the filter as well. If this doesn't fix the issue, go ahead and replace the control solenoids.

SOURCE: 2004 Ford Explorer ABS light on constantly and

I just had the same exact problem. The ABS light was on constanly, and the 4x4 high light flashes about 8 times, turns off for about 2-5 minutes, then flashes again for another 8 times and keeps repeating. In addition, I was also hearing and feeling a grinding and clunking noise going in reverse, and the steering wheel was difficult to turn. I changed a bad hub assembly on the front driver side and everything went away...fixed! I wouldn't let anybody tell me that the ABS system and the 4x4 system are not linked together. In fact, my local Ford service department assured me that I had two separate issues. Well, I only had one issue and it was a bad ABS sensor. I hope my exprience helps you.

My cruise control is not working on my 2004 Ford Explore and not long after the overdrive is flashing

Most likely could be multiple problems such as stop light switch and overdrive button failure. If stop light switch works intermittently meaning tail lights blink at all when brake is pressed the system disables cruise control. As for the OD problem switch may be dirty or stuck or transmission is malfunctioning. Have the car scanned for trouble codes and make note of any P or T codes. Let us know.

Have a 2001 ford explorer and the overdrive light been flashing, and feel the tranny slip alittle when driving.. some people say its the valve body gasket .can you help?

When the OD light flashes in this truck it means a malfunction has occurred in the transmission, it usually will be due to excessive slippage of the transmission based on the signal of the input and output shaft speed sensors. Here is what you need to do is have the Transmission Control Module tested for the fault code or codes that was stored when the light starting flashing, it is doubtful the valve body is the problem based on my 30 years as a Ford dealer technician.

I have a 2004 Ford explorer and the overdrive light started flashing i have 95000 miles on the vehicle. I also noticed that it is shifting really hard and doesn't seem like it has 4th or 5th gear any...

Unfortunately, Explorers are notorious for transmission issues. The overdrive light flashing is either the detection of a shorted EPC (Electronic Pressure Controller) or a defective sensor. Bad shifts are a sign of the EPC, while good performance would suggest a bad sensor. I have also seen issues with the valve bodies and torque converters.

You can try removing the electrical connections on the transmission, cleaning them and putting di-electric grease on them, but unfortunately, you will likely have to take a trip to a transmission shop. Swing by an Autozone and have them pull your codes. If the light is flashing, a trouble code will be set to help direct you towards the issue.

Overdrive Off light keeps flashing. Vehicle is a Ford Explorer '96.

If your overdrive off light keeps flashing this indicates an electrical or mechanical fault has occurred with your transmission and a diagnostic code has been stored in your trucks on board computer. The stored codes can be read by diagnostic scanner and will aid in making a diagnosis of the problem that is occurring.

Overdrive light starts blinking

How many miles on car, have you every flushed the tranny? It sounds like a classic case of a stuck solinoid body, you can try flushing it if it doesnt have high miles, the fords are known for a heatation into reverse or drive when these start to get stuck.

I have just purchased a 2004 ford explorer sport trac. The truck kicks out of overdrive without me pushing the button and when it goes out the light flashes and says overdrive off

This may be because the transmission has a problem. It is trying to save itself from further damage by self-disengaging the O/D.

Please take this vehicle in for warranty service (if available) or to a trained mechanic/transmission shop for evaluation. Continued driving could further damage the tranny.

Good Luck.

If the OD light is flashing, your transmission is bad. Have it rebuilt, because it most likely is the transmission fluid pump. Good luck!
