SOURCE: air suspension 2002 olds bravada

I have a 2002 Bravada w/air suspension. When the compressor is loud it is bad. I bought a new one for less than $300 off the net but after 6 months it is not inflating the rear even though it runs briefly after start-up. It is most likely the compressor check valve. The Compressor Service Kit costs about $25 at the dealership. My rear air springs went bad (right side first) with cracked rubber and leaking. The right side was always lower when it would inflate and would leak until the whole rear was down. New air springs are about $85 w/o shipping @ GMPartsDirect.com. Also, the sensor can go bad but my buddy who works on Bravada/Envoy said this is usually NOT the problem. Compressors go bad after a few years and the air spring rubber deteriorates causing leakage. If the air springs leak, the compressor runs alot more and wears out faster. I'm not a certified mechanic, but have replaced the compressor myself and it took about 2 hours. As for the Compressor Service Kit instructions- you can search "Bravada Letting You Down?" on the net and a tech gives full instructions on how to service the compressor. He states that the compressor check valve sticks and it will not build pressure to inflate the rear of the vehicle.

SOURCE: Check Air Suspension for 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis

It sounds to me like your compressor got killed. What probably happened is that the airbag got a hole or tiny crack in it so the compressor has to work extra hard because it is like blowing up a balloon with a hole in it. Therefor the airbag killed the compressor. I would recommend going to strutmasters.com and taking a look at our conversion kits. these convert you from the airbag to a powder coated American made steel coil spring that is guaranteed to last the life of the car. I added the link below so you can check it out.

SOURCE: my rear air suspension doesnt air up

It sounds to me like you have a hole or cracks in your airbag. The dealership typically diagnoses it as the compressor but that is only to keep you coming back and wasting more money on something that will never truly be fixed. The Compressor is the problem but the airbags are bad as well. When the air bag has a hole or leak in it the compressor has to work extra hard because it is like blowing up a balloon with a hole in it. Therefor the airbag will kill the compressor. It sounds like this is what happened. I would recommend going to strutmasters.com and taking a look at our conversion kits. these convert you from the airbag to a powder coated American made steel coil spring that is guaranteed to last the life of the car. This is a PERMANENT fix and ALOT cheaper than going to the dealership. Air bag pump is running, new airbags . rear bags wont air up.

These Lincoln air suspensions are terrible. I have converted many over to coil springs at a fraction of the cost of replacing/repairing the bags. If the rear bags don't inflate, there is a broken air line to the bags or the bags are leaking

How long does it take to fix the air bags in the air suspension in a lincoln town car

Every repair place you go to, will have different recommendations
for your situation

You have to decide if you want to spend money on a 19 year old
vehicle

Personally I wouldn't, & I do all my own work & get parts at a discount

Think about your question
How would we on the internet without the car to test,be able
to tell you if it was the compressor, air bag shocks/struts or
compressor,plastic or metal air lines,electrical issues,etc

If your keeping any vehicle, with air suspension, I only have one
recommendation every time I get this question & it applies to
almost new vehicles as well

LOOSE THE AIR SUSPENSION COMPLETELY

There are at least 6 big well known brand name companies that
make conventional replacement shocks etc

You remove the air bag deal & replace with a brand new,not
reconditioned, vehicle specific shock complete with the spring
necessary for your vehicle

The how to disable the air compressor, remove or tie up the
air lines & other issues is up to you, or may be in the instructions.

On a 4 year old ford or lincoln you can't afford to have a dealer
try & diagnose those systems, not from what I see on this web site
The dealers can't resolve their own products anymore

Rear air bags lose air pump works when car stARTS

Hi Marco, take the vehicle for a diagnostic scan and that should be able to pin point the actual problem. I believe the vehicle may have picked up a slow puncture or maybe there is a problem with a valve? the reason for my diagnosis is that the air bag is able to pump during a journey and then deflates (I hope we're talking about he suspension; I haven't heard of a ford with air suspension, but that does not mean they don't make one.) If we're talking about the SRS air bag system then a scan is even more important) Regards John

Air bags suspension won't inflat. Checked all fuses & air suspension switch. What can the problem be?

Probably failed seal or air bag leaking air. Check again and try to see if this will do the trick. Sometimes pvc line could fail to deliver air to the bag too!

What are the warning signs, if any, when the leveler (rear air suspension) is about to go out?

If a slow air leak has developed in either an air bag or in any of the tubing (there's a lot) or in the valve at the air pump, you will hear the air pump running more often.

Eventually, the pump will be unable to raise the car to the required height (working against the leak) within the time-out period (about a minute) and then it will give up, stop pumping, and a light on the dash will come on indicating an air suspension problem (or maybe on your relatively newer car, the digital dash may show an error message - I don't know).

I've had an '88, a '91, and a '94. Both the '91 and the '94 had air suspension faults at various times, and none of them were air bag leaks. I've had the valve at the pump stick and/or/leak on both cars, and the tubing spring a leak on one as well. Apparently the air bags are pretty well made and don't fail as often as the other components (in my experience).

Check air suspension system problem

sounds like one of the rear air bags is leaking and if you get under car and spray with soapy water from spray bottle you can find leak and replace bag or line that is leaking. turning off the pump is not a good idea the rear bags will deflate and cause the car to ride too low and cause damage bottoming out. also if the leak is not fixed soon the air compressor will run too constantly and burn out/wear out and very expansive to replace.

Air suspension is not working

It just happened to me. I took it to a spring shop and had the air bags replaced with coil springs. It is an identical fit from a Crown Vic and only cost $200.00 total! Too much can go wrong with other parts of the air suspension. The ride is the same.
